I downloaded Blackstar Sunday night and when I got up next morning Bowie was dead. That was not a great start to my week. I sense it might be his best since Scary Monsters.

RIP Alan Rickman.

Same age as Bowie - and from cancer, too. Awful. Great actor.

It just isn't Christmas until I've seen Hans Gruber fall from Nakatomi Plaza! Only realised this year that Die Hard was Rickman's first major film role. He stole the damn show! Happy trails, Hans...

Nothing horrific. She just didn't want to carry on. We got on fine, never argued or anything. Truth be told we just didn't see enough of each other with work and other commitments for it to last. I'm doing good though. Really good actually!

Sad to hear about Tom Petty. Only 2 Wilbury's left, what a bummer.

I recall FB opened for Tom Petty and was paid handsomely for a support act. Always thought he was one of the good guys.

It's been a couple months but Charles Bradley was a real bummer. I saw him about 4 years ago in Grand Rapids, MI. He was sick but still sounded incredible and started to visibly show fatigue toward the end of the show. He had to sit down on a chair to continue the performance, pausing to tell the audience that he really shouldn't even be on the stage but he didn't want to let down everybody who had paid to see him because we all meant so very much to him for making his dream come true. Gracious and beautiful soul.

There goes Mark E Smith now :( I guess most folk probably saw it coming as he wasn't keeping in good health. Sad, and I'm gutted I never got round to seeing The Fall live.

Gutted too Pot. I saw one of the remit era shows in Dublin. It was a shambles. True to form it was full set of unreleased tunes, bar Muzoweri's daughter and Blindness I think.
What a body of work though. A true artist. I will really miss the astounding art and lyrics he could create.
One of the greats for sure.

You're lucky you got to see him/The Fall live. I had the opportunity many times to see them in Edinburgh but just never bothered. I saw a photo of him playing one the last sets late last year after his period of illness and he looked terrible, bloated and wheelchair bound. The guy devoted his entire life to The Fall and only death in the end was able to stop him.

I'm not familiar with their back catalgoue much to be honest, but I know most of the well known ones. I thought Remit was a pretty solid album considering how long The Fall had been churning out albums relentlessly.

I watched their set on Glastonbury on TV in 2015 and, as you say, it was a shambles. But it was a good shambles. MES was and still is the king of lo-fi indie music.

You could tell some of the band were getting pissed off at him as he kept putting on/half putting on the drunken layabout act and interfering with them playing and stuff, but it a joy to watch anyway. They had a way of playing loose and out of key and out of time that just worked so well. I'm sure it probably sounds easy to to do, but just like Les Dawson and his off key piano songs it probably is harder to do than you think.

There's definately never been anyone like him. A national treasure.

Here in the UK news presenters expect us to weep over some basketball star we've never heard of because America's entertainment aristocracy are indulging themselves in an orgy of emotion masturbation. Pre-revolutionary peasants were made to starve but at least they weren't made to suffer the indignity of having to cry over Marie Antoinette's burnt croissants. Never was an aristocracy so ripe for the guillotine.
