Every song on FB&C’s complete box set is instrumental today.
What’s going on?
Not complaining really, just weird to hear all these tunes with no lyrics |

Assuming you are serious, either the jack you are plugging them into is faulty, or the wires inside the metal tip on the headphone cable have become crossed.
Either way, you are likely hearing the sound of reversed polarity, which is causing phase cancellation to occur.
Every sound that appears equally in both the L and R channels (which USUALLY includes vocals, as opposed to various instruments, which are usually panned to various positions in the stereo image) will vanish.
Any other instruments or effects which reside in the same mix position (basically the center between both speakers) will vanish too, but the missing vocals are way more noticeable.
Plug your headphones into a different stereo.
If the vocals return, the problem is with your other disc player or amplifier.
If they are still missing, it's the phones themselves.

I'm enjoying the weird effects these messed up headphones are giving me.

That's how "vocal removers" or "karaoke" plugins usually work I think.
(That makes me think I somehow managed to generate the opposite: some interesting acapellas from Pixies songs by substracting instrumentals tracks from original tracks. (can share a few if you drop ur email))
