I can't believe I'm saying this, but the first Pixies song I didn't like the first time I heard it was.....

Planet of Sound

I thought it was too repetitive with not that great lyrics.

And yes, of course, now I absolutely love it.

I mean, that was 25+ years ago!

Anyway, what was the first Pixies song you didn't like the first time you heard it? And do you still feel the same way?

Controversially, the first Pixies song I didn't like was actually the first Pixies song I ever heard: The Monkey Song.

I didn't hate it, I just didn't think it was up to much. (I like it more now, but it's not a favourite) Then they released Here Comes Your Man and I liked it more.

Then Bossanova, and I was sold.

Planet Of Sound left me a little disappointed too when it came out, but at that point my expectations were raised.

Sorry picpic, I should have prepared you for the shock by putting a warning note or something.

But I love POS now!

To make it interesting picpic, which is the first 1.0 song you didn't like at first?

Crackity Jones for me. Like it now, still don't love it. Same wth Trompe, the song and The Sad Punk. I like portions of them, but dislike others and depending on my mood I can find them annoying.

2.0, Ring The Bell and Another Toe for sure.

The two songs I can't get enthused for are Stormy Weather and Ring The Bell. I basically adore everything else

I don't care much for Bailey's Walk. If Bsides count?

If not then There Goes My Gun. Musically it's ok but it's pretty underwhelming. I think it gets a free pass for the fact it's on Doolittle.

Oh man Bailey's used to be my favourite song. My friends and I used to quote it all the time and scream Bailey upon moments of excitement (in that precore video where the Gardaí / Irish police take BF away you can hear us scream it a couple of time, what ruffians we were).

Again I find myself in totally agreement with The Maharal.

First time I heard Bailey's Walk was in my car tape deck on a blank tape that was all the B-sides. It didn't have any song names or labels or anything on it. I had to fast forward around to find it.

It mesmerized me. Still does. I would think it could be nominated for "Weirdest Thing He's Ever Done" award.

Live versions are awesome too, but nothing comes close to the studio.

"Yeah!"

Ha just goes to show how diverse tastes can be! That's great though!

I always thought the Jacques Tati could be related to Bailey, they kinda do the same moves!

I remember ignoring "Dancing the manta ray" the first time I heard it. Now I think it's one of their best B-Sides. Is this song about a particular UFO shape ? Like Le Cigare Volant (the flying cigar) is a classic UFO shape. And let's not forget the cucumber-shaped UFOs too (Men in Black). I'm pretty fond of all Charles UFO-folklore songs.

I adore Dancing The Manta Ray.

I think they should open every show with it.

I think every band should open every show with it.

And I agree picpic it might be about a particular sighting.

I never paid 'Ain't That Pretty at All' much attention when it was released but listening to it recently it's a blast.

Sounds nothing at all like the new material (production, vocals etc) and it sounds like they're having fun. BF unhinged and Kim sings too!

Yeah, I actually haven't listened to Silver in a long, long time.

Now as for as "The Sad Punk" is concerned, I totally get how it can be tough on the ol' ear drums, but what a beautiful orchestra of cruelty that song is.

And Jaime Bravo is a great track.

Doesn't have anything to do in this thread, but it just crossed my mind.
