Tell me that when this started you didn't think for a minute that you were gonna get to hear "The Thing" and that that would be so awesome!
"I was driving doing nothing." So much cooler than "He did his little dance." Still not bad.
And then Paz starts singing and you realize it was all just a dream, and that this is the future. |

Holy crap does Paz sound horrible on this!!!!
I'm cracking up so hard typing this.
Charles looks away when she starts singing.
I love these guys so much, but can even Peter Radiator or Fissile not miss Mrs. John Murphy right here?

The whole debate about Deal is almost as annoying as Paz voice.
Just kidding.

You know, I actually thought to myself that Paz sounded really good on this one, even before you made your post.
I don't see myself as an apologist in any way for her or the band. I truly like the timbre and character that her vocals have evolved into. I think they jibe nicely with FBF's.
I also truly do not miss Kim Deal at all. I sure do love the stuff she did with the band, but I am not locked into some weird, purist mindset over whether or not she is still holding a bass and standing behind a mic with them.
Paz really wants to be there, and they all really want her to be there. The same cannot be said of Kim, so there you have it.
But seriously, I guess I just don't hear what you're hearing in regards to her vocal contributions to this track. They sound fine to me...

Most harmonies she does sound off-key, so I can understand why so many listeners find her vocals irritating/annoying.
Probably the same way some guitar enthousiasts dislike Joey Santiago for being disonant and sloppy (I don't !).
I personaly love disonant/glitchy lead guitar parts, but my ears hurt when the vocals are off-key. And I must say the last Tenement Song performance on TV was amazing. Why ? Because harmonies were good this time. It changes everything. To me at least.

I hear you Peter.
I actually *do* consider myself an apologist for the man and the band. Donald Trump could be the bassist and they would still be the best band playing today.
Is it possible that Frank wrote about Paz presciently on the first song of Pistolero?
Other than Bel Espit, Paz sounded good enough on the other songs they did here, and like picpic said that Colbert performance of Tenement Song was amazing.
If you think Paz's singing is just as good as Kim's I respect that, but like you imply, who cares really? He's him and they're them, and what else could you ask for? |

Thanks, PP for these intimate videos.
Two thoughts: 1) When interviewers, like this one and the 2 guys in the NYC thing, start with their TERRIBLE questions I only continue to watch just for Charles' funny reactions, facial expressions and quips. But I can never watch the whole thing..........me wants to smack the interviewers.
2) Paz always seems to have a happy, delicious child-like expression on her face which is adorable........with that innocent-looking, almost "shy" smile. I got over her vocal limitations long ago because she adds such excellent musical chops.
Thanks again for these, PP! |

Man, I do love Plaster of Paris. Easily my favorite 2.0 song, followed by Um Chagga Lagga and Classic Masher. It's just bright and fun. More of that going forward please. |
