I had a dream that I was walking with 1989 Francis and we were on our way to see 2016 Francis in concert and I was like, "Dude,you're gonna love him. He's you. He's you!" And 1989 Francis was like, "Iiiiii don't know," but in a smiley, good-natured kind of way.
Here's how I would rank the incarnations
Frank Black I ('93, toty, etc)
Black Francis I (THE Pixies)
Catholic Frank (FB&theC's)
Black Francis II (Pixies 2.0)
Duchy Frank
Frank Black II (Fastman, etc) {btw I love this Frank too even though it's at the bottom}
I'm probably missing some eras. And maybe you guys already did this somewhere. |

Where is the BF of Bluefinger and Svnfngrs and Christmass? Is it BF2 or FB2? or BF 1.5?
my ranking is Pixies-biased

Christmass is a Frank Black record though, not BF... But yeah, I'd separate BFII (from Bluefinger to Paley & Francis) from BFIII (Pixies 2.0).

I agree Sdon and Vilainde, 7 incarnations not six (my original post was going to be about how many are there but I just went into ranking them).
So my amended list would be:
FB1 (93-96)
BF1 (86-93)
Catholic FB (98-03)
BF2 (07-12)
BF3 (14-)
Duchy Frank (08-12)
FB2 (04-06)
Also, I'm not surprised to see Duchy at the bottom of everybody's lists so far, but to me things like Black Suit, John From, Ft. Wayne etc are much closer to Pixies/BF/FB1 than anything during FB2 era. |

Listened to FM/RM in full for first time in years recently. I never rated it at the time as if wasn't a new Pixies Album not was it Catholics. But it is really strong, Fastman (the song) is up there with his best.
Nothing against BF3, simply the others have released more music, here's hoping for lots more. |

doing whatever he wants is the ticket
(maybe there was more than one exclamation mark, can't remember, the details went to e-valhalla after a forum hickup years ago). |
