David Bowie was long an admirer of the Pixies. He died with dignity. I hope I can show the same dignity when it comes time to check-out. RIP Starman.

Terrible to see him go, especially with just releasing such wonderful music this past week. Damn shame.

Let's see...I think I recognize Dave Grohl, Robert Smith, Bowie, Billy Corgan, Pat Smear, Kim Gordan, BF, Lee Renaldo, Steve Shelley, and Thurston Moore. Who are the others? Is that Brian Eno in the brown jacket? When/where was this picture taken?

Bowie's 50th birthday party concert. Brian Molko and the bass player from Placebo are there as well. As is the guitar player in Tin Machine I think.

Very sad day here for me. Bowie was one of my fave artists. Compensating by playing a lot of his records.

"We've had the privilege and pleasure to meet him: He was humorous, humble, effortlessly genuine. He invited us to have dinner with him. [We] had Indian food. I sat next to him! He admired the way I played simple lines for the sake of the song.

He paid for dinner and I had to peek at his credit card. Seemed like he wanted all to see that he is Davy Jones. He was Davy Jones that night. Glad we met one of the nicest human beings on the planet. He'll be the first man on Mars. RIP."

And the comments below that video answered my earlier question regarding the man in the brown jacket...guitarist Reeves Gabrels.

Because Frank's written tributes for people who move him, from Jonathan Richman to John Candy to Richard C. Hoagland, I guess I'm expecting some kind of appreciation of Bowie to surface in an upcoming Pixies song. And if they decide to do a flat-out cover, I'm nominating "Speed of Life" from Low or "Sorrow" from Pin-Ups as two that I can easily imagine being Pixied-up.
"I tried to find her cuz I can't resist her..." I can already hear it.

Pixies added up to Bowie tribute concert

http://pitchfork.com/news/63385-michael-stipe-pixies-cat-power-blondie-amanda-palmer-more-playing-david-bowie-tribute-concerts/

"Michael Stipe, Pixies, Cat Power, Blondie, Mumford & Sons, Amanda Palmer, Jherek Bischoff, Anna Calvi, Nancy Wilson (joining her sister Ann), and the Donny McCaslin Group (featuring Mark Guiliana, Jason Lindner, and Tony Visconti) have been added to the lineups for the Music of David Bowie tribute shows taking place at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall on March 31 and April 1, respectively. They join the Roots, Laurie Anderson, the Mountain Goats, Bette Midler, Perry Farrell, and others"

Take out the Mumfords and this don't look like a bad line up at all!

If they would cover some Bowie songs, "Hang On to Yourself" would be great for them. "Moonage Daydream" à la "Hey" as well. Some Tin Machine for rendre la pareille... What else?

Tin Machine's 'You Belong In Rock And Roll' would be a fitting tribute.

So they ended up playing Cactus both nights. Fair play to have the balls to do that but I would have liked to hear a 'new' song.
