Another political thread. Sorry, especially to floop who's begining to dislike this place. But I really only do it for Denis jokes.

OK my pessimistic prediction which I'm happy to be talked out of. Things in the Euro zone will continue to deteriorate. Of the religious South, Spain and Greece will go the way of Yugoslavia with pitch battles between left and right. I thought we were past all that. Apparently not. Italy, the right will keep a lid on things, of course. Cooler northern Europeans are going to do much hand wringing, more than they've ever had to do before. France will go schizo, Germans will naval gaze. Eastern Europeans will take it in their stride. Europe's ethnic populations... well already it ain't looking pretty. And when it's all over, a Chinese version of the Marshall Plan? I don't think so.

All in all it doesn't look good.

If you want to fuel your pessimism, I heard a guy giving a speech that said
you can't sustain an economy without cheap oil.

And for fun he did it while sounding like Jack Nicholson.

You mean modern capitalism doesn't actually work very well? Well this is news to me, I've always had so much faith in it.

Anyone watching Greece? The end fast approaching. Tin pot Europeans who squandered their freedom. All set for bloody war and nothing looks to save them from themselves.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-19976841
Last month, the Greek prime minister, Antonis Samaras, warned Europe that his country was on the edge of a Weimar Germany-style social collapse. "What I have seen on the streets of Athens convinces me this is not rhetoric. The situation is changing rapidly. There is a violent far-right party, its MPs committing and inciting violence with impunity; a police force that cannot or will not prevent Golden Dawn from projecting uniformed force on the streets. And a middle class that feels increasingly powerless to turn the situation round."

I'm not having that. That's a clear reference to me that is. I think your behaviour should be moderated.

should've been fiscal union first. other than that,

can't stand the excitement, must go make tea. drinking thread, watch out.

also, i don't see any reason to put blame on currency. in the US cities go bankrupt but no one gets the idea that the way to avoid it is to replace the dollar with something else.

These two Marxists have already had more airtime than I can stand. Where are Europe's hard men and women to sweep these jokers aside? I'm also sick of seeing the whining pathetic jerks who are pinning their hopes on these fantasists. It's enough to turn you to the extreme right, honestly.
