Nik Kershaw is back with a new album. Nik Kershaw! Still going after all these years. He was my pop idol when I was a boy, first two albums and nearly a haircut. After that I got into Madonna and then heavy metal. We're talking nearly 40 years ago here.

I think this is quite good, kindy folky acoustic song..

But the produced version is shite

R. Stevie Moore.

No doubt this guy's been mentioned before on here as I read he was meant to be collaborating with FB at one time. I only heard about him a couple of weeks ago and I'm hooked.

Over 400 albums recorded at home since the 60's apparently. I had no idea where to start but I've been listening to Glad Music, Aftermath and various compilations. Great stuff - weird, quirky, melodic, traditional, all over the place style wise. Love it all so far.

New Bdrmm album bedroom.

Heard them on Radio 6 a while ago and noted them. Finally got an album it seems.

Nice bit of shoegaze, quite Stone Rosesy. More Bosnian Rainbows maybe, or some other trippy, grungy shoegaze band.

If that's your bag then you'll like this album I think.

New AC/DC song just like anything they did in the old days when they were still a good band. It sounds like it could be easily off one of their early/post Bon Scott albums. Past few albums, and certainly since they went downhill after Heatseeker have been pretty underwhelming really.

New Blue Osyter Cult ablum is quite rocking. Reminds me of Def Leppard or Whitesnake or some other soft rock band from the 80's some of it. I don't know if they've always sounded like that, I've always thought they were a kind of blues band or something? But this latest one is definitely well within the sphere of 80's heavy metal. So I decided to check out their back catalogue following that and started on their first album, and now I know the name of the band who wrote the song Don't Fear The Reaper; which will be handy if it ever comes up as a question on Popmaster.

Stand And Fight is a great track, it's almost thrash metal! Bit Megadeth this one.

Level 42

I still remember buying their single Hot Water on 7" when I was 10

Never realised they probably were started oringinally by black people?

Dry Cleaning are back with a new song and an album coming out in April. More talky vocals and Pixies-esque basslines and guitars.

I remember Black Hearted Love in 2009, really great PJ Harvey song and video. I've always liked her, but I've never seen her like this before? John Parish was her original muse. This is pure gold, I recommend watching all of it. PJ Harvey as you might have never seen her before

Does anyone want to talk to me about the drastic decline of Barenaked Ladies with the departure of Steven Page a decade ago

No one I know likes them or is interested in them, my girlfriend can only take so much about a band she doesn't care about

I find it so incredibly fascinating. I could write a book on this one topic. One of the most jarring examples of "can you believe this album is put out by the same band who made that album" sort of things.

Ellie Rowsell is back with more good stuff, with her band Wolf Alice. She is becoming a national treasure, one of the best bands around in these times. She is an indie rock godess. I think there upcoming new album might be the start of their or her long career in music. I hope she does a film or something and goes into acting.

I fear I have fallen into an old man/dad rut of not finding new albums, bands, or music in the last three years. If you had to choose one album per year for a FB fan from 2018, 2019, and 2020, what would you recommend?

In the same boat. I hate all new music. Even bands I like have often disappointed me. I just listen to older stuff. Though I guess my answer would be my post up above, the new Young Fresh Fellows album is a lot of fun. I'm hoping the new Liz Phair is good. I liked the new Morrissey too last year.

I guess my number one pick would be I Like Fun by They Might Be Giants from 2018. One of their best albums and so deep into their career.

I find myself there quite a bit, too, Cult_Of_Frank. I've been looking for creative ways to find music lately. I recently Googled "best music for testing headphones" or something like that. That actually helped me strike a new vein. It didn't really help me find any new artists, but it helped me listen to music in a somewhat different way than I normally do.

But I do have one album suggestion — from 2020, try Nathaniel Rateliff's "And It's Still Alright."

OK! TMBG have long been on my list to make a serious attempt at getting into... I've circled and found a few from time to time but haven't really absorbed an album from them. And I will check out "And It's Alright" also!

It's so easy to get to a point where you've reached a critical mass of music you enjoy, to just go and find something you already know you love/haven't heard in a while and 'spin' it again instead of challenging yourself with a new band. And once you're not going out to see new bands and being exposed to new things, you either fall on the radio/podcasts or friends with good taste to guide you, and I really don't even have a musical podcast I love anymore either. So I watch for new releases from artists I already know I like and as they stop producing, the well goes slowly dry.

It's a sad state of affairs and one I never thought I'd let myself be in but I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone!

Well, that's a whole different thing.

If you are getting into TMBG for the first time I'd recommend different albums. My favorites are Lincoln and John Henry, followed by Apollo 18, their first album, and Flood. Then possibly I Like Fun and Join Us...but also a lot of their best songs are b-sides and rarities or on weird compilations....However if you specifically want NEW MUSIC, then yeah, I Like Fun is really great. Bleak and funny and cynical and of course, fun.

I highly recommend my own TMBG podcast to take you on the journey if you think you really want to dig in. We actually discuss Frank Black quite a lot and even played an exclusive rare Frank demo provided to me by one of his drummers at one point...

Didn't even know BOC was still doing music! Thanks Pot. :)

Also, hadn't seen that pre-core, definitely one to remember (and interesting to hear his thoughts on the outro).

It's quite a different experience to what I would have imagined I'd get from a BOC album. If someone had played the track "Stand and Fight" to me and told me it was the new Megadeth song I'd probably have believed them.

don't read, first hear the whole song (don't read the song description either)- Nirvana - Drowned in the Sun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1-B3M_KaRQ

anyway that's how i heard it on the radio, thinking "huh? i don't think i've heard that one before", after which the anchor explained that the song was made by artificial intelligence... i'm mildly scared...
