I like this Kyle Craft cover of Blondie's Call Me.

And HCYM just played on the office radio.

Just saw Ween twice at terminal 5.

They are the best. The live shows are the best party you'll go to this year. What a blast.

I saw them live in 92 (same year I saw Pixies) without even knowing who they were and became an instant fan.

Hope you can catch them this year.

One highlight of many was them covering L.A. Woman. Unreal.

I'm currently head over heels for Doreen Ketchens, a clarinet player I saw on the street in New Orleans recently. She and her band play Dixieland jazz at the corner of Royal and St. Peter in the French Quarter, with 5-gallon buckets set up for tips. I've seen a lot of street musicians over the years, but nobody is even close to her. Here's her on YouTube playing "House of the Rising Sun" several years ago:

Saw Hall n Oates at the Garden last week, Squeeze opened, and someone before that.

Great show. The Garden is always an experience.

Anyone looked in on the new Stephen Malkmus album? Another one to follow his experimental one from last year. I think this one is better, different. A bit hippie zen on there. I think it might be the best album he's done since Pavement!

The new Morrissey album has a few really great songs on it (Knockabout World is a favorite) but I have been disheartened and distracted by his use of autotune, which he may have been doing for a few albums now but feels impossible to ignore on this one. It's essentially blasphemy for Morrissey to cover his voice under layers of autotune and it actually shocks me Morrissey fans don't seem to mind this (I know because I checked in with the fan forum.)

I expected to really like this album. But it's meh. It's been that way for a couple albums now. I just end up going back to "World Peace Is None of Your Business," which was phenomenal.

I'm not too crazy about World Peace (except the last two tracks), but the songs left off of World Peace (included on a limited edition bonus CD) are my favorite Morrissey songs in the past 20 years and even his whole career, including The Smiths.

I wouldn't call the new album meh, I think it's very strong, and some of it even reminds me of real classic Morrissey, like the people in these houses song sounds like a Viva Hate tune.

Low In High School is one of my least favorite Morrissey albums but I have a lot of respect for it, it's really ballsy and focused and intense. It's just not my kinda thing in that it's oppressively political and my favorite Morrissey topic is more interpersonal relationships and love and the smaller things in life. The new album has more of that.

My favorite Morrissey album in "recent" years is Ringleader of the Tormentors, which I think is phenomenal and sometimes I'll even call it my favorite Morrissey album when I forget about Vauxhall and I.

I also love Years of Refusal, one of his most fun catchy rocking awesome albums.

Eddie Argos was banging on about this new US indie band called Cheekface today, so I decided to check them out on Spotify and do you know; they are actually pretty fucking ace!

Also the boy Lard played a new Lovely Eggs song on the radio today, and I never really got into them the last time Wiggy Giggy was doing the round; in fact I found that song insufferably irritating. Nonetheless, they have a new album out and this track off it - You Can Go Now - is a real banger.

Some early Wham! classics. Or not really.. How about the new Lucinda Williams album? For example the song Bad News Blues.

Not really familiar with her music other than the stuff she did with Robert Plant a few years ago. Heard this song on a country music show on Radio 2 last night though and though it was quite bluesy. Sounds like she's been on the gin, like a proper snow tiger.

Just working my way through the entire back catalogue of Lucinda Williams on Spotify. Good mix of contemporary country and country blues. I wonder if I'll get through all 18 albums in one sweep? I am partial to a bit of country music these days, I think it's something that comes with age. All the truck driving Billy Ray Cyrus shit can fuck off though.

I love Lu. "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" is a must. "World Without Tears," "Essence" and "West" are also great. Her really early stuff is kinda hard to listen to, when she was imitating old blues singers and hadn't figured out her own sound.

I love love love the lyrics to the song "Ventura":

Decide I'm gonna make myself
A little something to eat
Get can down off the shelf
Maybe a little something sweet

Haven't spoken to no one
Haven't been in the mood
Pour some soup, get a spoon and
Stir it up real good

I go out with a friend
Maybe a little music might help
But I can't pretend
I wish I was somewhere else

I wanna watch the ocean bend
the edges of the sun then
I wanna get swallowed up in
An ocean of love

Put on my coat
Go out into the street
Get a lump in my throat
And look down at my feet

Take the long way home
So I can ride around
Put Neil Young on
And turn up the sound

Drive up the coastline
Maybe Ventura
Watch the waves make signs
Out on the water

I wanna watch the ocean bend
the edges of the sun then
I wanna get swallowed up in
An ocean of love

That one was a nice surprise when it dropped out of nowhere. Dylan just keeps producing, year after year. He also put out another one last month, "I Contain Multitudes," and it's good, too.

Really getting into Jessie Ware's first album Devotion. I suppose all you musical fascists aren't into her though. She's got a new song out which is alright IMO, not mad about it. But I think her first album is a stomper, really soulful and some of those bass lines (I think they're using the Arabic musical scale on the first track because it sounds a bit flat, but at the same time hot as fuck) The Gold Edition on Spotify has Acoustic versions on it too that are well worth a listen.

What can I say, I saw her on TV playing Glasto on the John Peel stage a few years back and she fucking owned it. Shit hot band as well, but not sure if they are still playing with her as the new stuff is synth.
