i watched Ladri di biciclette and yes, it lived very much up to its reputation. quite a lot of themes in one film, but i guess that's natural for a genre that wants to mirror real life. and it's humbling to see that 60+ years ago, with the most basic tools by today's standards and with amateur actors, films this good were made.
i later noticed that it is in the top ten of BFI's list of films to see by the age of 14... i'm a tiny bit behind there, haven't seen half of that list yet... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4699393.stm |
