Rules:

One person posts song lyrics
Everyone has 24 hours to guess
No Googling to help find the answers, please.

If someone guesses it in less than 24 hours, that person gets to be the new person to post song lyrics. The person must guess both the song title and the artist(s) who perform it.

The person who posted the lyrics has the option of giving hints such as additional song lyrics if they choose.

If no one guesses, the person who stumped everyone gets to post the answers plus a new set of song lyrics.

Oooh I know that one. Or I know something that sounds like that.
Isn't it a Jonathan Richman song?

Take this rock and shake it 'til it bleeds.

Ok they are from Santa Cruz and David Lovering Played drums in a band formed by some of the original member(s) of this band. One of their albums was named after my huband's favorite dessert.

Sorry Cheesman

Whoa what the hell! My post disappeared!

Ok, yeah, TarTar got it.
I'll put the damn thing here. wtf
It's been a really strange day. I had a premonition that my husband might get in an accident this morning, told him to be careful, then he narrowly missed being hit, then our electric stove blew up....now this...

From an album released a year before Telephone Free Landslide Victory, and a band kinda like CVB. Title removed from the lyrics:

My folks bought me a _ _ with no insurance to match;
So if you happen to run me down, please don't leave a scratch.
I ran over some old lady one night at the county fair;
And I didn't get arrested, because my dad's the mayor.
_ _, _ _
Doughnuts on your lawn
_ _, _ _
Tony Orlando and Dawn
When I drive past the kids, they all spit and cuss,
Because I've got a _ _ and they have to ride the bus.
So you'd better get out of my way, when I run through your yard;
Because I've got a _ _;
And an Exxon credit card.
_ _, _ _
Hey, man where ya headed?
_ _, _ _
I drive on unleaded.

You buttered your bread, now lie in it.

Nobody got the CVB one? I would have gotten it in an instant, if I had had a chance to check the forum in between the time when it was posted and when Daisy Girl gave the answer.

Unfortunately, though, I don't know Jen's song.

There's a kid I know but not too well
He doesn't have a lot to say
Well this boy lives right next door and he
Never has nothin' to say

It doesn't seem like he does anything
He never helps out in the yard
He lets his mother carry in groceries
Cause he doesn't plan to work too hard

The boy next door is into better things
As far as I can see
The boy next door is into bigger things
The boy next door is me

I'm ashamed. I actually own "Telephone Free Landslide Victory" (in the "Cigarettes and Carrot Juice" box set). I knew I'd hear that song... My only excuse is that I bought it recently and have only listened to the whole thing once.

This one is for Daisy Girl specifically. Everyone else try to get the one I posted a short while ago, but let's see if Daisy Girl can get this.

And I'm not going to read your books
My tank's full of squid
And it's getting light
And you whores, you can't make me want
'Cause I got all the rest I need
On the deck of my boat
And you can't take my heart when I'm here
'Cause it's a long swim home
For your cute little arms
I'll steal some gas, fix my motor
Put on my Beatles tape
And get you out of my head
Ah yes, here I am, far away from everyone
And the only fish I smell
Is on the back of my boat
I want to go but my motor's broken
There's no scotch tape, I'm out of gas,
So it looks like I'm stuck here
I'll steal some gas, fix my motor
Put on my Doors tape
And get you out of my head

a lesser known fact about CVB. they were originally called College Five Band (CVB), because they formed when they were living at College Five at Santa Cruz (as i did). then they changed it to Camper Van Beethoven for some reason.

College Five is now called Porter College. There are only a few # colleges left becaue people give money and then they change the names of the colleges (within UC Santa Cruz)

i never got to see them live. they were before my time.

Tar Tar, you've got me stumped...all I know is due to the Beatles and Doors tapes refrences I am guessing it's gotta be a 80's band.

I like it because it's about a boat and boats, I think, are cool.

It is proabably written by a male... b/c it seems more like a male mentality.

Tanks full of squid make me think West coast or off Florida/Based band...

The lyricist... probabably lead singer... is highly inteligent, extential, progressive in his thinking, loves women, but values his independance.

I am guessing though his background is somewhat blue collar-- from a fishing community. He is resourceful yet somewhat dishonest due to his plans to steal gasoline....but he sees it more of a universal sense vs a black/white sense... He is good with his hands and has a anylitical side to his mind due to his ability to fix an engine. He also has the ability to think on his feet, hence the reference to scotch tape.

The lyrics are very good... too good to be a main stream pop song.

Ok.. I don't know where this CSI music profile goes Tar Tar... you stumped me good!

Floop that's cool, I never knew that background. Awesome. I saw Cracker once too at a welcome back outdoor concert sponsored by a local radio station... it was cool. They covered a camper van song. I remember wearing my straw cowboy hat and my green paisley sundress and it was cool.

I'm back! Sorry, I don't have internet at my apartment. School is my free internet connection.

Okay, well, those lyrics that are about the "boy next door" are from the Feelies song "The Boy With the Perpetual Nervousness."

The lyrics for Daisy Girl were the Descendents song "Catalina."

So I guess it is time for new lyrics. The name of the band is edited out.

Houses of the holy
Was an album by led zeppelin
I bought it on eight track
Not on cd
Fades out in the middle
The way an eight track’s s’posed to
The way an eight track’s s’posed to

I got the number thirteen
Tattooed on my bicep
The thirteenth letter of the alphabet
Is the letter m
Stands for marijuana
The way that it oughta
The way a letter oughta

The electric kool-aid acid test
Was a novel by tom wolfe
It’s about taking lsd
And driving ’cross the country
Drivin’ in a school bus
A school bus on lsd
The way an education oughta be

I wanna drive a school bus
Over to the brady’s
And pick up alice
And then we’ll bake some brownies
And then I’ll grab marcia
And play with her ouija board
And talk to mr. brady

Houses of the holy
Was a really bitchin’ album
Bonzo kicks ass on it
And then he chokes on his vomit
The way a rock star’s s’posed to die
The way a rock star’s s’posed to die
The way a rock star’s s’posed to die

I wanna die wasted
In a room with eddie vedder
We could both die together
But he’ll go first
Yeah eddie’ll go first
’cause he’s more famous
More famous than ___________

When you buy our coffins
Put eight tracks in ’em
Playin’ houses of the holy
’cause it’s a really bitchin’ album
Remember when I told you
Remember how it fades out
Remember when I told you

Okay, well, that was the Rugburns song "Me and Eddie Vedder" which I've never actually heard, just heard people sing parts of it. I'd like to hear it someday. Anyway, let us try this again.

There was a mansion on a hill
But deep in a secret kingdom
Where a young prince lived
He had four sisters and four brothers

The prince had a special bedroom on the ground floor
With a window that looked down into a deep deep forest
He could see distant lights from other castles in the kingdom
From his window

During the day
He went to school
When it became night
He stayed by himself
Usually in his secret hidden bedroom

One night
While nearly everyone was asleep
He took out of the attic a radio
And he decided to listen to it

Sorry I can't post more often. That was the Beach Boys "Mount Vernon and Fairway-Theme". It's a bizarre fairy tale from their 1973 album Holland.

Okay, let's make this REALLY easy.

Freak out
And give in
Doesn't matter what you believe in
Stay cool
And be somebody's fool this year
'cause they know
who is righteous, what is bold
so I'm told

Who wants honey
as long as there's some money?
who wants that honey?
