| Packed to the rafters (tree boughs) the 8000 capacity bowl all had a good time. I had a great time having finally seen them since being a fan in the 80's. Ended with into the white, rocked on crackity and uMass... Joey showed that he knows how to play that thing we like to call the electric guitar better than we do. And was that a looper in there? Oh yeah, show up at least 2 hours early to find parking. College campus, ya know. If I had my druthers the wall of PA's should have been twice as big, I kinda figure performances are not allowed to go above a certain volume there. Saw many with camcorders going lucky bastards/bitches. |

the show was great. and the venue was too. i hadnt been there in 10 years, but if you have to go to a bigger venue this one is great. every seat/place seemed like it was perfect.
going tonight too. who was the first band? they sucked big time and just want to know the name, so i know to always avoid that band.
anyone know who's opening tonight? |

The show was awesome! Not quite what they were the first time around - but still better than most shows you'll see today.
Anyone jot done the setlist??? it was killer - i just don't have it down. |

9/24 was good -- started out as a slow to fast set. Which of course meant it finished big. 2 Encores.
9/25 was the best of the three. Rocked from start to finish. Crowd was screaming the whole time. Great show.
9/26 -- an afternoon show. The Pixies were good -- though they had to restart Debaser (Charles messed up). But there were VERY FUCKING ANNOYING sound problems. The main amps cut out about 30 times during the show. I was a fair distance away from the sound board -- but it looked like Ken Goes was the one on the board. I think he may not have known what he was doing.
Knife + Fork opened all three days (Eric Drew Feldman's new band). They need some work -- live anyway.
Fear also on Friday -- they were fantastic. I've wanted to seem them live for 15 years. Great!
The Distillers on Saturday -- so-so. Possibly worth investigating more.
The Thrills on Sunday -- weren't so Thrilling.
And they played Bam Thwok all three days.
Overall a great weekend -- I've seen them 7 times this year. It's been a good year!

I heard the sound was not nearly as loud as it should have been...
What's up with college campuses in Cali and this 'volume restriction' problem?
I saw the Pixies at UC Davis during the warm-up tour, and while they rocked fucking hard, I got the EXACT same impression that has been expressed here and by others I know who attended the show--the volume was too low! |

| I was at the UC Davis show and didn't think it was too quiet, but I also think that some of the Frank Black shows I went to were too loud. So, maybe I'm a wus when it comes to volume. |

i can tell you there's no volume problem at the UCLA facilities.
i speak with utter sincerity when i say that i think i suffered some significant ear damage seeing Sonic Youth there a few years ago.

It gradually got louder, it seemed...the encore songs seemed to be at the perfect mix/volume. (also, i know what you mean about some FB&C shows being loud as all hell...maybe its the smaller club settings they usually play. personally..."I don't mind a little ear damage" when it comes to the Pixies or Frank. I just felt that Joey's guitar was the loudest, the vocals seemed buried beneath the guitars at many points, and the mix wasn't very smooth. Then again, it could have been where I was standing...
It also seemed (at the UC Davis show) that the PA couldn't take the volume at certain points (when the whole mix was apparently turned up towards the end) and would kind of "shudder" sometimes. Then again, the Disclive recording I have of it sounds 100 times better than the actual show did, so that means (A) my hearing was skewed because of where I stood, or (B) Disclive recordings just tend to sound way better. I noticed that the vocals on the Disclive disc are far more audible than they actually were at the show...
But i digress from this topic. |

i was at Friday's and Sat's shows, both pretty awesome!! I had a GREAT time. Where I was at, people were dancing and singing along to every song.:)
does anyone have the setlist in order?

I was at the Saturday 9/25 show in Berkeley at the Greek.
I detected no trouble at all with the sound that night. Naturally a concert in an outdoor amphitheater is not going to be as loud as a ballroom show, but I had no problem with the sound level. The crowd was very amped and excitable, and most everyone there seemed so appreciative of seeing the band play - it was an electric kind of evening.
The band was flawless. Everyone hit their marks perfectly. No chit chat, no BS - just great Pixies tunes. It was a fun night. One of the best shows I've seen. It wasn't personal like Frank with an acoustic guitar and 100 people in a club, but it was pretty cool nonetheless. |

| I saw the Friday & Saturday shows, and with the Saturday show I can rest contented. Truly a classic show! And Bam Thwok comes off better live. Nice to hear it. Did it seem that the Saturday show debuted some new touches, especially is some transition moments and with Frank's longish power chord "solo"? Seemed to me that they were doing some things a bit differently, but it could have just me freaked out over how great the show was. Makes me even sadder that DiscLive dropped the ball. |

I recall they played all the biggies - Gigantic, River Euphrates, Cactus, Monkey..., Where Is My Mind, Wave of Mutilation.
Also: Alec Eiffel, Subacultcha, Gouge Away, Velouria, The Radiator Song, Here Comes Your Man, Number 13 Baby, Mr Grieves, Caribou, Nimrod's Son, BamThwock, Bone Machine, Debaser...
That's all I can remember, but I'm sure I'm missing at least a half dozen songs if not more. |

Question:
The middle section of the Greek amphitheater behind the tech tables was roped off on Sat. night.
There was a velvet rope line to get seated there. Was it just a special ticket/price section? I inquired the day of the show and some tickets were going for more than $125, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it, or some company sponsored a seating area for their VIPS.
Anyone know about this? That was the first time I've seen that at that venue.
I was surfing today and came across a couple reviews in the local papers of this week's Bay Area shows. Maybe I am just jaded but when exactly did rock criticism start to suck so bad? It was like a skipping record. Same stock phrases. I never thought I would say this, but if I read more article with the words "influential" and "Nirvana" in it, I might puke.
No wonder the band didn't want to go back down this road again until recently. |

The roped off area was for press and VIP's. But they take down the ropes as soon as the Pixies show starts and anyone can sit there.
I know this because I know someone who was with a person with press credentials. It isn't really any better of a seat than anywhere else; it's mostly so the press people can move around and take pictures and still have their seat to write the review. Some hippie was also walking around telling people that the Pixies has paid for some protesters that had pepper spray sprayed on them by cops to sit there, but I think he was just a guy with an agenda, cause every section he was doing his speech for, he told them that the people were sitting one row over. Lots of politics at the Pixies show. It is Berkeley after all.
On Sunday I'd like to hear what the reviews are like, 'cause the sound board cut out at least once per song. I'm not kidding. It was seriously distracting from what would have been a fantastic show. Nothing takes you out of the mood/emotion of the performance like having all the main speakers suddenly go out for several seconds. The sound guy should have stopped the show for a couple minutes to figure out what was wrong, but he just kept waiting for the circuit to blow, then turning back on all the channels. |

I'm 99% certain they played Alec Eiffel. I don't recall every song they played because there were just too many and I really didn't want to write down every damn song, I wanted to enjoy the show.
But I don't know that it means it is in their "rotation." I got the impression from threads here and from the show I saw that they're playing what they think people want to hear, plus whatever else they feel like throwing in.
Also, to the person who posted the 9/26 setlist - I am so bummed for you about the sound problems. What a HUGE drag. And thanks for the info re: seating area, I thought that was pretty odd.

I am highly highly doubting that they played Alec Eiffel (no offense, leica)
It's just that they haven't played it yet, not even once. That and a handful of other songs they SHOULD very well be playing all the time (Rock Music, Sad Punk, Letter to Memphis...)
but if they started adding it to the setlist, the upcoming DC shows will have me even more excited than I am now... |

well maybe now that they're more confident with the songs they were playing after the warmup tour, they're beefing it up a bit more.
maybe they're just getting bored playing the same songs too?
either way, i'll be pretty stoked if they play eiffel when i see em.

I'm 100% certain they didn't play Alec Eiffel on 9/25 Sat. night, though it would have been great if they did. The set list seemed to pretty much reflect all the previously posted list.
The show absolutely rocked. Very impressive.
I'm glad I got to see them at this point in the tour. They played very tight and seemed to be truly having a good time.
Joey's guitar did seem a little loud in the mix at first but over all the sound was great. |

I went to friday's show, my brother went to saturday's. Definitely no Alec Eiffel at either show. I don't recall Rock Music at friday's show, and don't know about the other days.
Actually ran into a few of my friends at the show, but still didn't see Pants there. Must be lying about being there ;) But seriously, it's been like twelve or thirteen years since I'd last seen him, and we all change a fair amount from our high school days (I'm much sexier now :P )
And my note on the Davis show: the sound was awful. It did sound slightly better on the disclive recording, but not much. Notice in the recording how there's hardly any bass; that's how it was at the show. And you couldn't hear vocals worth anything. It was a disappointing experience, but their set at coachella made up for it. The greek show was also great. I thought the sound was fine, but I was near the front. |

i was at fri and sat. and on one of those i thought i saw you or your bro. who has a blonde/light brown haired girlfriend? that's who i saw, but was too far away to do anything about it.
sat was better, got blown away and planet of sound too on sat. and vamos was more fun sat too. was too broke to make it too sunday though. and yes the davis show sucked sound wise. total crap. i like the set a lot though. but was way happy i made the trip to eugene to see them there too, cause that show was perfect. |

Should I be FTPing instead of using a browser? Sorry I really dont know much about online streaming, music storage, etc. |

there were three shows in Berkeley, however, the two shows they played right before the Berkeley dates were at a venue also called the Greek Theatre in L.A.

The link just a little bit up is a bit torrent link. You'll need to do a just a wee bit of homework if you've never used it before. Go to the main page of that site & there's loads of "how to's" for bit torrent. If you don't have broadband, you're in for slow goin though. If you do, this will be a VERY quick download via BT. 
planetofsound.no-ip.org:2010 is a direct connect hub, not a site or ftp. You'll need DC software to hit The Pixies hub. Go tot the faq at www.radiohub.org to figure out DC, then use the planetofsound addy to hit The Pixies hub.  |
