You're all forgetting the Stooges and the MC5. Dylan was undoubtedly the most important as he was influential to probably everyone else mentioned, even the Beatles were Dylan disciples. The Velvets were the Pixies of that era and are very important as well, and while the Beatles were great personally I don't see them living up as solo artists to Dylan or even Lou Reed, and definately not to Brian Wilson. Long live the Beach Boys, can't wait till Tuesday for the official release of Smile.

The Ronnettes, of course.
Followed closely by the Beatles and the Velvet Underground in a tie for second. Then a tie for the bronze for Love and Os Mutantes. The Beach Boys don't place, but they get a smileyface sticker, a lollipop, and a pat on the head for effort. |
