So with all the hype about the Alien Vs. Predator film, I realized that I am not in any way a sci-fi nerd. Sure I know Star Wars, but that's really about it. The only Star Trek films I know well are the one with the whales, I believe 4 The Voyage Home, and Generations. And until very, very recently, I had never seen any Alien or Predator films.
So I rented Alien and watched it, enjoyed it enough. Certainly an amazing film for the time it was made. So then I watched Predator the other day, and that was awesome. I really got into that. I was shocked that anything with Ah-nold in it could be so damn good and I wasn't bothered by his presence (although a few of those one-liners were classic Arnold cheesiness). But yeah, it was an awesome film. I guess there's just something about being hunted in the jungle that's cool. So I immediately went out and rented Predator 2. The guy behind the counter said, "Are you sure you want Predator 2?" I asked, "Is it really that bad?" He said, "Take everything you liked about the original Predator, scrap that, and throw the Predator into the city. You do learn a few more things about the Predator, though. But Gary Busey plays Gary Busey. I can't simplify it anymore than that."
He wasn't kidding. It was pretty shitty. Right from the getgo, with all that gangwar shit. They really could have done without that whole gang plot. It was really distracting and way too over-the-top. I guess they wanted to make a real action flick, but it was just bad. Towards the end of the film it got better, the last 30 minutes were enjoyable, but nothing as kickass as the original.
Anyway, anyone seen Alien Vs. Predator? Worth watching? Should I at least watch AlienS before seeing it?

Aliens is fucking awesome, to sound like a dork. seriously, all the alien films are pretty great. i'm not too sure about this AvP stuff, though.

OK, OK, the Predator guru is here. What's all this I hear about Predator 2 being shitty?
No no no! The star of the first film is not Arnie, not the jungle but the Predator. Is he in the second one? Yup (and his mates briefly). And nobody likes gangs, so it's good to see them carved up. It's not as good as the first, but then no film is, but it's still a quality film in it's own right.
As for the new one. Well, it's going to be the greatest film ever. Simple as. Saw a trailer for it the other day. I came on the spot.
Obviously the non-fans will hate it.

A v. P was really bad. I enjoyed myself a bunch, but man was it bad. Opinion of films.
Alien - creepy. some really cool scares, but feels dated.
Aliens - not very scary but a bitchin action film. My favorite movie of the bunch.
Alien 3 - unduely hated. Once you get past the shitty set up (i.e. the deaths of certain characters) and a few wonky sf/x, it's damn good. My second favorite.
Alien Ressurection - written by Josh 'Buffy' Whedon, this was the biggest financial success of the series, and also the worst entry. Clone Ripley is only slighty more acceptable than the Newborn hybrid. Stupid on all levels.
Predator - Homers P.M., I disagree. The star of this flick, for me at least, wasn't the Predator, but Mack, the special-ops guy who was always shaving. Favorite part of the movie is when he wigs out and starts chanting "gonna have me some fun gonna have me some fun gonna have..." The movie works so well cause every single marine is damn cool. Same thing is what makes aliens the best, too.
Predator 2 - Gary Busey is fun. Dig the end battle. This movie is also underrated.
Alien vs. Predator - so shitty. Shitty acting, shitty story, shitty dialogue, horrible editing. Some decent design. The Alien might just look better here then in any of the other movies, except the Queen. This movie owes a lot to Jurassic Park. The basic plot's a straight rip off, and the alien drones behave basically light raptors, while the queen is definitely a T-rex. Fun but bad. So bad.

i was a late appreciator of the alien films.
it was only following mrs benji's love of the films that i ended up watching them all.
mrs benji is also a huge fan of predator, so i can compare like with like, and in my opinion the alien ones totally kicks the ass of predator.
went and saw Alien when it was rereleased on the big screen last year and was absolutely blown away. there is something magical about seeing a film of such grandeur and scariness on the big screen.
aliens is also an amazing movie, but as someone said, it's all action and really no scariness.
the other two i thought were also quite good, but no where the level of the first ones.
predator is a fun movie - thats it. nothing deper than that. mrs benji disagrees cause she think that predator is the best movie ever made...pure delusion i think.
haven't seen predator 2 cause heard it is absolute rubbish.
sad to hear a vs p is so crap - but we'll still go see it.
now all we need is for terminator 1 + 2 to be rereleased on the big screen.

not going to bother with AvP, looks/sounds and from the reviews probably is shite. alien films are quite good, not sure about alien 3, only watched the first 30 mins but decided i didn't like it, seemed forced or a bit silly, can't remember which, but i turned it off, which i don't normally do, i can normally watch just about anything! saw alien again in media class a good 6 years ago, the one thing that struck me was the end scene, with the alien clinging onto the ship, that's *so* just a guy in a dodgy alien costume, was quite funny. although at the time it was probably quite scary. 
And it's hard to be a human being, and it's harder as anything else, and I'm lonesome when you're around, and I'm never lonesome when I'm by myself, and I miss you when you're around. |

When I rented it recently, I had the choice between watching the original cut and the director's cut from 2003. I decided to watch the original since that's what nerds, I mean people, have been watching for almost 25 years. What were some of the changes made to the 2003 version?

hmm, I know in the rerelease they updated the really cool retro 80's sci fi graphics on boards the ships monitors and put supposedly cool new graphics on it...
fuck really need to get out more, and yes. I wear glasses

i hope they changed that last scene too and used some proper effects to make the alien look 'realer'...
yes that photo is very fuzzy/blurry, you want to hold the camera still when taking a photo, normally.

I do have pictures with comedy distracting friends in them (god love the welsh) but the problem is the comedy drunken tre in those photo's, dear god, everytime I say to myself I'll never develop the film, then I do and have to remind myself why next time I should never develop the film.
