I´ve listened Frank Black´s Black sessions live in Paris and it´s really great...I just hope I can see him live again...with or without the Catholics!

Trust me, 'with' would be the experience you're looking for. Though I've heard that a solo FB set is mad enjoyable as well...
But the Catholics have blown me away the four times I saw them, they are so so tight |

the Black Sessions is amazing, its a nice recording and real clear. sometimes i used to think its a bit soft (Men in Black for example) compared to the original recordings, but i love it. frank seems pretty relaxed and in no hurry to plough through the set, and theres TOTY songs everywhere. his 2 songs with joey in the kitchen and then the acoustic calistan....we so lucky.

the acoustic is abstract plain. so much for making me look pedantic.

the_tolerant: quit the green? quit spouting such tomfoolery... you LOVE that icky stinky goodness. I know I do...
I love the version of Two Spaces on the Black Sessions--having never heard it live, this is the next best thing. Plus I just love the prominence of so much TOTY (Big Red & White Noise Maker come to mind) on the session. Similarly, the Catholics really started ditching FB/TOTY/COR material in their most recent tours, so I love hearing this stuff live...plus it's so well recorded! |

yes, that was a great moment listening to that broadcast at the time, I don't know if you know it, but there's also a great acoustic set he played in the same broadcast -the best musical broadcast in France- years later after the coming out of the first Catholic LP |

Hey, Rita, you wouldn´t happen to have a recording of the Catholics show in Aula Magna, would you? |

i've see the catholic once, and the idea of FB solo with jsut an acoustic for the first time excites me more than seeing the catholics again. just seems so much more intimate and impressive. |

I bought a ticket to see FB "solo"...it was an all-Catholics party sans Rich. I was expecting the man and his guitar but was very happy with the gig.
oh, and Eric Drew played organ the entire set! tres tres rad:)

it's not a bootleg, it was just recorded for that radio broadcast by Frank alone with his guitar in 1996, he played Jumping Beans, Modern Age, Pray A Little Faster, I Don't Want To Hurt You, You Ain't Me and Freedom Rock

i felt that the black sessions cd is a little flat. very good sounding soundboard recording and such, but it just feels lifeless to me. hence i haven't listened to it much. maybe if i did, i'd change my mind.

The original recording of Men In Black was soft...a b-side of Headache.

i havent heard this version. i just remember hearing COR for the first time. it didnt have no 1..2..3..4...to start it off. it was just there. gave me know time to think 'bout the song before. awesome.
i'll check the Headache single out. much appreciated!

You betcha.
I'll have to dig that one out again...it's been a long time since I listened to it. A couple other good ones on there too...
