It really seems impossible that he could get re elected. What if he did get re elected? We can't let that happen, the world would kill us. |

I'm pretty sure he'll be around for another term. Don't know if those things will sell after the election. |

Dangit, it sure would be nice to be able to get excited that Kerry woud win, and then that he would be any different when it comes to restoring the country, but those things are pretty durn neat lookin'.
Hey KoK, I hope you don't mind me posting this here. I've really been wanting to share this but I didn't know if anyone else would be interested.
"Active Duty Military Attending the RNC (Op-Ed)
By imrdkl Sun Sep 5th, 2004 at 02:08:00 AM EST A recent report filed by the Associated Press contained a startling bit of information:
About 15 percent of the 4,800-plus delegates and alternates to the convention in New York are veterans, organizers said Monday. An additional 3 percent are active military personnel.
This report was displayed prominently on the Republican National Committee's website, and lauded gleefully by the fine folks at Free Republic, among others
As it turns out though, it's actually not such a good thing to have active-duty military anywhere near a political convention - if you value your democracy. In fact, up until just a few days before the convention, it was quite illegal for active-duty military even to attend. And yet, there it was in black and white. Active duty military members were not only attending, but participating as delegates in the RNC. How could this happen?"
Soon after being published, the original AP report, linked above, was removed from the RNC website, and from most or all of the major news outlets which had published it, including the AP wire service copy. The few outlets which still haven't taken down their copy of it are getting harder to find, but the Google cache will give evidence to its original distribution. The media ran with the news that our beloved military were an important part of the RNC, and they ran hard.

The pattern I've noticed, from election talk on various 'net boards, is... many people living in states that will probably go Kerry, think Kerry has the best chance of winning.
people who live in states that will likely go Bush tend to think Bush will win and Kerry hasn't got a chance. And this is whether they are actually a Bush supporter or not (I live in Texas, an extremely pro-Bush state, and I'm not a Bush supporter, but I think he's gonna win).
and people who live in swing states don't know who the hell's gonna win!
Me, I'm probably voting third party. In my state Bush stickers are everywhere and I drive the President George Bush Turnpike to work each day. We ain't a swing state and you can afford to go third party here. |

That countdown is only accurate if he doesn't get re-elected, or, more realistically, have the Supreme Court declare him Dictator For Life.

Even when he does lose, he's done so much damage to date the world's gonna kill us anyway. Hopefully only figuratively. America has never been more universally unpopular. If all you ever watch is Fox, Bush is still looking tall in the saddle. If you look anywhere else it's getting harder and harder to be supporter of this apparent teenage lobotomy. The United States is being led by a guy who can't walk and look to one side without veering. Pretty sad. At least he's not having a pathetic affair, that's what counts I guess. |

You guys are crazy, Kerry doesn't have a chance. It's going to be a landslide. That you would actually want someone like Kerry to win is even crazier. I'm not a huge Bush supporter, I think he's done some good and bad, but compared to Kerry the choice is clear.
Boo Hoo the world hates us. What else is new? I guess you think we would be better off leaving our national security decisions to the French and Germans? Like the French know anything about national security, give me a break. They're just pissed that we exposed their corrupt sweetheart deals with Saddam, oil for food my ass.

compared to kerry?
have you been asleep the past 3+ years...we've all seen what Bush is capable of
biggest fed. govt. ever...large corporate welfare handouts (the airline bailout alone could feed our nation's "welfare mothers" many years over...free money, woohoo)...biggest scale back of personal freedoms since the McCarthy era...our nation's courts overturning civil rights violations left and right by renegade lawmakers....wow...
this is a great country, its time we started acting proud rather than a bunch of reactionary scared-of-brown-people nation scared out of our minds with a debt that's out of control |

I agree. Politics can get ridiculous sometimes, and I think it's fine to laugh at the whole thing. It's hardly a game, though. Well, maybe it is to the people in charge, but not to the people who are going to be living under a certain regime.

harringK (and Erebus, through association)
I find most political debating to be a whole lot of talking in circles with no changing of minds or any kind of resolution being reached...a.k.a. futile
but let me just say you are both FUCKING INSANE. it all comes down to agenda, and not the "empty promises" that are constantly spewed year after year, election after election. The fact of the matter is that Bush and his ilk are money-driven, ethnocentric, religiously-blinded, self-aggrandizing people. If you advocate censorship within the U.S., a weakened disctinction between church and state, and a gung-ho, World-Empire approach to invading countries for ambiguous wars, then by all means...VOTE BUSH! |

I thought my post my stir up a few people. And let me reiterate, I don't think Bush has been a great president, but I think he is a better choice for this election. The amount of Bush-hatred out there amazes me, but what amazes me even more is that Kerry is the best that the Dems could come up with to run against Bush. If they could have come up with any halfway decent candidate, I think they wouldn't have any problem winning this election...but Kerry...come on.
Whether you believe it or not, we are still at war, and I'm not talking about Iraq. We need someone who will make the tough decisions and stand up against evil, not someone who thinks we should hand over our national security decisions to the UN. Bush will do whatever he thinks is necessary to protect this country, Kerry will do whatever he thinks is necessary to further his own political career.
I'm not a die hard Republican, I don't see that much difference between the two parties, I think that is an illusion. If the Dems could've come up with a decent candidate I would've considered voting for him. But Kerry...no way. The voters are starting to see through his lies and lack of any plan for domestic policies or any plan to fight terror. The election will not even be close. |

And is Kerry's plan worse than the shite Bush has been spouting for four years?
I don't want to get into some debate with you, harringk, I respect your opinion - or at least your right to it.
I just hope you are wrong.

Plan? What plan?
All I've heard Kerry say is that we need to go back to the UN and drum up more international support, which is just a smokescreen. The countries that would have helped us did, the countries that opposed us would not have changed their tune no matter who the president was. |

I was trying to stay out of this but what the hell.
I like how George Bush has completely screwed up Iraq, but Kerry is being criticised for not having a great plan for cleaning up Bush's mess. I do think Kerry will have a better chance of getting international help, but what has Bush done to suggest that he will have a good plan for getting out of Iraq? |

Bush had NO plan. He still has no plan. If he does, it's been kept a pretty damn good secret from the country he is supposed to be serving...voodoo politics are not what it takes to get the backing of (a) your own people and (b) the support of other countries.
Bush fucked up. Badly. |

what do you guys think about hillary clinton? there's all this talk about her running for president in '08 if bushy wins '04. would you be willing to suffer through bush to get hillary, or would you just rather vote for kerry this year and then again in four years? or do you hate hillary?

KOK - you have never had anything. The first sign of dissent on this thread and you want that person to go away. You NEED the echo chamber.
And guess what, you are going to lose. Not just the election, but, people like you who shrink from the reality of the world will be viewed as nothing more than a bunch of Chamberlains.

I wasn't skirting around anything, I thought it was pretty obvious but let me spell it out for you:
Evil = people who fly airplanes into buildings, people who shoot and blow up schoolchildren, people who blow up dance clubs, people who blow up commuter trains, people who hijack and crash airliners, people who strap bombs to their chest and blow up busess and restaraunts. AND--NOW TRY TO STAY WITH ME HERE--GOVERNMENTS & DICTATORS WHO SUPPORT & ENCOURAGE THESE ACTIVITIES ARE NO LESS EVIL THAN THE ANIMALS PERPETRATING THEM.
Help = Financial help, military help, intelligence help, or peace-keeping help designed to persuade or as a last resort remove governments/dictators who refuse to join the civilized world and discourage the evil activities listed above.
Is that clear enough for you? Were the activities on Sept. 11th 2001 not evil? How about the recent events in Russia? Bali? Spain? Israel?
Let me save some time by addressing your predictable response about the loss of life in Iraq being evil. There is a big difference between unfortunate and evil. Unfortunately civilian casualties are an inevitable consequence of war. Everything possible is done to limit those casualties, but you will never be able to avoid them completely.
The difference is evil people will deliberately target civilians (see above), the US led coalition has and will continue to do everything possible to avoid them. I have no doubt that Bush struggled greatly with the decision to go to war with Iraq, knowing that there would be substantial civilian and military casualties. I also have no doubt that he made the correct choice knowing that inaction would almost certainly lead to many more casualties (most likely civilian) at a later date.
Its interesting that nobody cared about the hundreds of thousands of civilians that Saddam killed and tortured over the years, but now all of a sudden its the US that is evil. |
