i guess if you only make it to one show you won't really notice, but ever since saskatoon the pixies have not added a single song to the rotation...of the 42 some odd songs they are playing, trompe and bossanova are barely in the mix, and what about Bam Thwok or the new Zevon cover? i had a brief encounter with joey in april one night at the Commodore, i asked him if they were gonna play "dig for fire" and he said they didnt know that song at the present moment....are they really gonna play these same songs six nites in a row in NYC, let alone the whole tour?? frank is quoted in interview saying that they are playing what they think the audience wants to hear, so maybe if enough of us petition them to drop new songs they'll give us the goods....
im not trying to be too negative here folks, dont get me wrong, the Pixies are my favorite band and its a dream come true to be able to see them again after all these years, im just jonesing more stuff from their later albums....
what do y'all think?? |

Yea this set is getting old, which kinda makes me wonder if this pixies thing was really ment to last , considering all they are playing are the "hits" , its kinda like this tour is a one time thing...hope not |

i have a bad feeling that when this tour ends in december, thats it for the pixies... i hope im wrong, but yeah the "hits" arent gonna keep real fans coming back everytime they play a show....its interesting, when they played Vancouver in april, tickets were going for up to $200 each, not only on ebay, but in front of the venue, i know someone who payed $170 to get in.... this past show in Vancouver sept 7, there were sooooo many scalpers outside and no demand for tickets, some friends of a friend of mine scored tickets outside for 10 bux each....the initial hype is ending and now lets hope the band decides to mix it up.... |

YES please add more songs! I have seen the Pixies twice this year so far, and will be seeing them 3x in November. I sure hope they add at least a few more songs such as ALLISON and ALEC EIFFEL.

how spoiled we've become..
a year ago you would have paid 100 dollars to hear Charles fart in a microphone, and now you're getting picky with setlists.
kids these days.

My 2 cents worth is that yes, the audience wants to hear these tracks but also that although Frank writes all the tunes, i belive the other 3 were a little more involved than on the last two albums. And those 2 albums, awesome though they are, are often viewed as a pre-cursor to Franks solo career. I love those albums ,as i do each of the albums, but from what i can gather most fans see the Pixies best work in Surfer and Doolittle. Though i don't share the view. |

well, i wouldn't have done that - especially when i had the possibility to see fb&tc's for 18 euros.
still, at least at their last concert they should do it like the floyd - make a two-part show: first part - bossanova in its entity, break, second part: trompe in its entity. for christ's sake, then they can play debaser and isla de encanta as an encore.

If you are getting bored with the sets, you must be oversaturating yourself in the internet fandom of the tour. The show is billed as a reunion tour for big money. They seem to be enjoying it, but have made it clear they are playing what the fans want to hear. When they say fans they mean the people under each roof each night. not the messageboard regulars who wish they would equally mine all their records each night. Remember what you thought of the first set list... that is what your average concert goer gets out of the show. They get to hear an amazing set. They never claimed to be interested in appeasing the Phish fan show taping members of the audience.
Of course new sets would be awesome. I agree, but I am not surprised that they are sticking with the amazing set they prepared for when they got re-started. Just think of it this way. It is a reunion tour that seems to be drawing from their happiest days and creative peak.

You said it floop and jonbennet....the hour I spent with the pixies was the greatest!! they coulda played the same song 92 times and I would've danced and clapped like a caffeine and adrenaline-spiked hyperactive attention-defecit ridden monkey. (which i did anyway but that ain't the point).
The show rocked, the songs werw solid, banter w/ the crowd was fun and pixie-ish...how often does one of the world's greatest bands get back together and play a buncha shows (the REALLY good greatest bands--not the lame ones). |

42 songs 'aint a bad rotation. Can't think of many other bands who you would get that many from, let alone more.

I know, but if the songs are only 2 minutes long, does it really count as 42?
I know a guy who was a big KISS fan and every "farewell" tour he went to they played the exact same songs. But then again, people weren't probably going to 3 of those shows in 4 days like a lot of us are. There is something cult-like about the Pixies following, and I think the more variety, the better!

Yeah I have noticed all the cult like antics
I don't get it, floop's spot on, just be gratefull they are reunioning, it's better to have a 40 song rotation and a fucking great gig than to be staring at an empty stage, I was so pleased to see them I didn't much care what they didn't play, they were on for ages and did NOT STOP ROCKING, I think pixies fans are getting very fussy and forgetting they are incredibly lucky
