So who records live? Anyone record themselves? What do you use?
Our bassist has a mini-disc player and records with his headphones, which, obviously to me anyway, don't give very good results. We tried once right off the board, but the sound was pretty horrible anyway and even live the sound was horrible.
How would you record yourselves?

My band recorded live once plugging right into the board, with pretty bad results. Since we've been using various multi-trackers, and hope to finally finish our first EP within the coming week or two.

Ah, I meant more recording a live show. Yeah, we've attempted the live-to-two in the garage with what can only be described as muddy results. For some of our latest stuff, to help with syncing we've brought the 'pooter right in there to record direct to digital. Analog has not been kind to us.

I might have come across in a somewhat confusing manner. When I said that we "recorded by plugging into the board" what I really meant was that at a gig, the guy who was doing sound recorded us digitally and put it on a disc. Since then we haven't attempted a "live recording", just stuck with our analog Tascam portastudio.

I've only recorded a live show once, using a PC mic and a Sony minidisc player; needless to say, the results weren't very good, but much better than I expected, especially considering it was at an outdoor festival; and it is listenable. But it was an Everclear recording and I hate Everclear so I never listen to it.

we got our third show recorded (from soundboard) and played on radio. big mistake - extremely bad. extremely. and not only because our playing sucked. I think the easiest way to get an ok recording is if you can mix the soundboard recording with the recordings of two mics placed around the mixer - it gets alot better. |
