Just wondering.....What people think??? I have the utmost respect for the work of Frank Black........I love his whole timeline of work ...Pixies >>>>>To >>>>>Honeycomb.......I have to admit, though I listen to mainly Post-Pixies stuff now. I guess I've grown with Frank....Because his work of today appeals to me much more than say Surfer Rosa (Which I Love). The work Frank makes today is his passion....It is most likely more appealing to him than say Surfer Rosa .....Now I certainly would rather see Frank Black and the "Comb Cats" live than "Pixies Reunion" because I feel that's where Frank's real Creativity now dwells. What I wonder, though, Why not if the Pixies feel comfortable again as a band....Why not play new Frank Black work??? Why not be a creative force again together??? I guess people at the stadiums don't want to hear say...."Horrible Day"............They wouldn't even know who wrote it.

i wouldn't be surprised if they added some different songs for the fall tour. frank's always changing things up and making things interesting. i think they didn't know what the response would be for the reunion so they went in to rehearse 40 or so songs that they were comfortable with. the "old" songs are amazing live, but i wouldn't be against them adding some different material.

I also love FB's post pixies material - I do hope they change it up a little because I hate to say it, but I'm getting a bit tired of hearing the same songs over and over....even though they are great songs! |

I would rather hear 30 or 40 songs done to perfection than 1 done badly, as if they do one badly the backlash will begin, not being a reader of the rag that is the nme, has the backlash started with them yet?

His best songs ARE the Pixies songs for me so I am quite happy with the way things are going.

hey, this is a frank black site!! that is blasphemy. they're all good songs.
i think it would be cool though if they through in a few frank tracks in the mix- maybe massif centrale and los angeles (it would be cool to see what joey would do with the solo.)

i'd be happy with "los angeles" from the frank collection as well. then maybe "no aloha" from kim, then a magic trick from dave, and since i'm not familiar with martini's music, joey could just do one of those 25 minute theremin solos like jimmy page. otherwise, it wouldn't hurt to throw in some of their new originals or perhaps a cover or two.
i think the growing sentinment is that most attendees are longtime fans that would gratefully accept a less scripted show. since so many of us continue to question the true motive of this reunion tour, it would at least give us the illusion that that it not completely rooted in profiting and going thru the motions. |

I don't think most fans are now well aware that this reunion is largely about money. Frank said so himself.
I don't care why or what they play as long as it's the Pixies 'cos this is a Pixies reunion, I am just enjoying the ride!

So far and in my not-very-original opinion, any Frank is good Frank. Of course I'd rather hear new material, so I get more excited about Honeycomb than the Pixies Greatest Hits of Yore Tour. But they say this might change... Wait and see, and trust The Man.
I can't see the Pixies ever playing Catholics material though. I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool, I just don't think it could happen.
I jumped on the Frank Black Bandwagon/'Cause Pixies are so 2004 |

I don't think they'll play Frank, and don't think they should as then its not really Pixies. They'd end up playing Breeders songs, then some Martinis and it would no longer be Pixies, which I guess some fans would be pissed about. It would be nice to see them tackle songs such as All Over The World, and a few more off of Bossanova and Trompe, would have preferred it had they done that at Brixton (eventhough it was one of the best gig Ive ever been to).
This is a high class bureau de change, not some Punch & Judy show on the seafront at Margate! |

Do you mean Pixies play already recorded FB songs or pixes play new songs written in franks current style of writing? If it is the former, I think that is a terrible idea. I think solo work and 'the other band you were in' work should be kept totally separate. There should def be a compartmentalise attitude to that type of stuff. I wasn't best pleased with the Pale Boys reworkings of Pixies songs. I also think Frank shouldn't have started playing pixies songs at FB gigs. The songs were written under different umbrellas and should be kept that way. I don't see any point in mixing them. FB songs for FB gig, Pixies songs for Pixies gigs, Breeders song for... you get the idea. I feel quite strongly on this point..

At the House of Blues in Atlantic City, New Jersey, they played acoustic live for the first time and played "All Around The World" also known as "Needle in My Arm" a song that was left off Honeycomb for the next album of Frank's Nashville sessions.
