I voted for Prell to go back to the old glass bottle. After that I became deeply cynical.

VoVat, have you ever thought of doing stand-up?
What I mean is, standing while typing.

But seriously, you make me laugh like a loonie, and that's scary, because they laugh like crazy people.

Oh, and before I throw a giant quesadilla on the Delhi Metro line:
I'm registered, and I'm gonna vote. But I won't like it, damnit.

Well, considering that I stole that joke from The Simpsons, I don't know how well that would work.

Overall, I think I can come up with funny concepts and wordplay, but I'm not very good at actually delivering jokes per se.

okay, I think the above comments (while amusing) illustrate why half of eligible Americans don't vote. More interest in being funny, popular, witty. Less interest in exploring important matters. It's unfortunately the (I was going to say American, but comments have come in from other countries as well) WAY.

Well, anyway, I will provide a link to U.S. Election Assistance Commission for info on registering:

Voting for the options available to me at the moment seems like having to chose between the lesser of a set of evils. This makes me sad.

And is it not a possibility to be both witty, funny and interesting yet still have an interest in "important issues"? I thought I was pulling that one off quite well

Well, I'm already registered to vote, and I have a snowball's chance in Hell of ever becoming popular. You got me dead to rights on the trying to be funny thing, but I agree with Tre that it IS possible to do both at once. Besides, how much more needed to be said about the actual topic of the thread?

Saying that voting for either candidate is like choosing the lesser of two evils is a good copout. The Democrats wouldn't have had a chance at all of replacing Bush, if it wasn't for large public progressive movement. Is Kerry a great candidate? At very least he's "electable." But the Democrats themselves had no direction, no focus, until people like Howard Dean and organizations like Moveon put energy behind the movement. And the movement at this point pretty much involves replacing George Bush. All I'm saying is, it doesn't hurt to put the word out. Many, many people don't register at all, don't know how to, and therefore don't vote.

The humor thing- no problem. One can absolutely be funny and have political opinions. That's just not the way this thread immediatley veered. Not one comment about the election before it went astray.

The one thing I can't stomach is the idea that so many put forward that I must vote if for no other reason than to put Bush out of office. Fuck that. If I vote it's going to be because I've found a candidate that truly deserves the office, and I don't see the traits that justify that in any current politician, sorry. The main problem with politics in my view is it's too much pandering to whatever group they're in front of at the moment, I don't see anyone that is truly interested in being a leader. Maybe that's just me, but oh well, I'm not a person into politics at all, and that's not going to change no matter how much anyone insults me into following their movements.

You don't see anyone truly interested in being a leader? I kind of think it's the opposite, and that politicians are TOO interested in being leaders, and not enough in being servants.

It isn't a cop out my friend it's a little thing I like to call the truth. People here vote labour to keep the conservatives out of government, and some fuckiwits vote BNP because they're fuckwits, apathy in politics is a fact, give me a viable option and I'll make a viable choice. Voting for one to avoid the other is not informed voting, thats fucking desperation.

I actually have fallen on the side of lib dem for a while, not perfect but from one I can tell more upfront, but I guess this will be of no interest to you because it's not american politics.

And the first post after yours was political, vote bush out.

[EDIT]
Gee I really can find a Hicks quote for nearly every occasion...

People often ask me where I stand politically. It's not that I disagree with Bush's economic policy or his foreign policy, it's that I believe...he was a child of Satan here to destroy the planet Earth. Little to the left.

WolfMan-
I'm not much into politics myself...and I agree that its lame to vote for the "lesser of two evils". I think the two party system is a crock of shit that hurts more than it helps, but its so deeply rooted that its hard to imagine how a change could come about.

I generally don't involve myself with politics, and have little interest in such affairs. But whether you like it or not, they have a huge bearing on your everyday life. I'm not trying to sound preachy or persuasive, but I just think that anyone who tries to pass legislation to include JESUS DAY as a national holiday is fucking with everything that this country is about. So i stand by my position...I'm voting this year for the simple fact that I don't want Bush to be our president again.

Jesus is coming. Look busy!

I'm not surprised to hear about Jesus Day, but the name kind of sounds like a joke. Then again, it IS Bush we're talking about here.

I guess Jesus Day differs from Christmas and Easter in that it isn't an adaptation of a pagan holiday. Still, it's pretty dumb. To a Christian, shouldn't EVERY day be Jesus Day? To a non-Christian, why does he deserve a state holiday more than a lot of other people?

Maybe we should start a petition to make Frank Black Day a national holiday. What day should it be, though? His birthday?
