Uhh the Pixies aren't a cult band who can't sell enough records to pay their apartment rent anymore I'm afraid.

The Pixies on a box of Kokanee? Very interesting...
No idea on the tracklist, tho. I'll probably be able to find out later...

goes great with quesadillas! no kidding, I have 12 in my fridge as we speak (unless my room-mate's been dipping). Kokanee is a 'pilsner style lager'.

Yeah, I used to drink Kokanee (well, Kokanee Gold) all the time. I don't mind Kokanee now, but my tastes have changed a bit. You're more likely to find me with a pint of Alexander Keith's.

Kokanee is terrible. This isn't a beer for drinking. It's a beer for putting down and avoiding. |

Coming from someone who has tried over 200 types of beer, I have to say that Kokanee's actually quite good. Of the bigger beers in Canada (Coors Light, Budweiser, Molson "Canadian" and so forth), I'd put Kokanee at the top.

i used to drink kokanee gold but then i think i got allergic to it. it's like a really thick beer or something. kokanee is pretty good. someone told me that the coors light in the US is different than ours. like it's beer with melted ice cubes in it.
yep the pixies are finally an everyman band
yeah dean you should be able to get a hold of that cd methinks. |

Yeah, if I get by the 'straunt at lunch, I'll pick one up (that said, I have to drop off our rental gear at Long & Mcquaide). You don't know which Pixies track was on there? 10'll get you 1 it's Where Is My Mind. :)
Yeah, the American Coors is quite different, and not in a good way. Kokanee's a major beer, not quite in the league of Molson and Labatt's (both now American owned, by the way) size wise, but better tasting I think. Kokanee Gold is a little richer and is a premium beer, like Keith's or Sleeman's (except not as good).
Someone mentioned Stella Artois earlier and it is probably one of my favourite imports, if not my favourite. I also thoroughly enjoy Kilkenny and Specklebelly's. Though the latter is our own brew and so a person could hardly call me unbiased. :)

why do people like stella? i personally find it bland and terrible. kind of like and expensive fosters. Kronenberg is a much better bland lager - do ya get that in North America?

You can't beat a Kronenburg.
How much is a Stella Artois in Canada? It's funny how cheap beers can be considered "exotic" in other countries and thus overpriced. A Corona here in France will cost you an arm and a leg, and in Mexico it's the cheapest you can find.

saying Kokanee is good in comparison to Coors Light and Budweiser is not much of an endorsement for me, since those are pretty much bottom of the barrel. ie. cow urine.

And of course, it tends to be known in the UK by the sobriquet of "Wife Beater"..... |

Often times beer for export is different than the domestic product. Especially overseas. Maybe that's part of the difference?
I agree Floop, none of the above are especially good beer. Nor Kokanee, really, though it is better than those by a fair amount. We do have Kronenburg here, though I've not partaken yet.
If you're up here, you'd be better off with a Sleeman's or Keith's. If you're in Saskatchewan, some of the Great Western stuff is actually really good and has won numerous international awards. Their honey wheat is hard to beat. Alberta has Big Rock which is a more successful but less impressive brewery. Aside from Keith's, I can safely say there are no good Canadian breweries east of Saskatoon.
Heh heh, just kidding. That's all I know is all.

It could be Bam Thwok. And then Bam Thwok will become a new euphemism for getting smashed very quickly.

Never heard of Kokanee until now, but I have had most of the others mentioned. All of these brews are fairly lightweight, almost boring beers. Packaging some Pixies with a case of Paulaner Weiss would be the ticket for me....

I was referring mostly to the bigger beer companies whose products are available in every liquor store in BC and Alberta. Putting Kokanee in the same sentence as the other swill I mentioned certainly doesn't do it justice. Keith's isn't a major name in the west, but their beer is definitely worthwhile. Sleeman's also has some decent products (most notably Silver Creek Lager).
And while we're throwing out some good beers, I'd like to nominate Carib Lager, Zyweic (chill mug in freezer first, or it isn't nearly as good), Beck's, Red Stripe, Amstel Bright (not to be confused with Amstel Light, and much better with a lime slice). The stores around here haven't been able to get Fosters in stock for 8 months or so, but it was decent when I tried it. However, I found Carlsberg to be disappointing.

I'm a big fan of Amstel beer. Anyone tried Oranjeboom? It's a Dutch lager - fantastic stuff.
I also find Stella a little bland. Not a fan of Fosters either.

The song on the sampler is "Here Comes Your Man". The sampler also features Sublime, and I think two others bands whom I can't recall. I was disturbed and refreshed.
