so what shows are people going to be going to in the near future?
i'm interested in what you guys all see live even if i probly won't have heard of 'em.
Me? i'm considering going to see this japanese post-rock band called Mono next tuesday. i've seen them twice and they were really good, but i'm not sure if i can be bothered once more especially since the venue is a bit of a hike when i gotta work the next day...but it is only £7
After that i'm going to see Tanya Donelly with Cheeseman1000. thanks simon for getting me a ticket!!!!! everybody should know who tanya is.
Then in the begining of Aug i'm going to go see Cat Power + M Ward. saw Chan a couple of months ago when she had a wee bit of a shocker, but i'm willing to give her another go.
Then a couple of days after that i'm going to see Jon Spencer Blues Explosion which i used to love as much as the pixies back in the mid-90's, but then they released a couple of crap albums and i lost interest.
EDIT: i actually can't find the last 2 shows on sale anywhere but they were on fliers i got at last nights Wilco show so they must exist.
EDIT2: reason i couldn't find anything about the Cat Power gig is that it doesn't exist...M Ward is playing by himself..i just got confused. damn.
You?

Bought tickets for PJ Harvey this morning for her September tour. Going to Leeds Festival especially for the following: 80s Matchbox B-line Disaster (LOVE LOVE LOVE), The Distillers, My Morning Jacket, My Red Cell (some definite Frank inspired screaming there!), Mark Lanegan, The Kills, Peaches and Soulwax/2manyDJs. Also due to see Bloodhound Gang sometime soon (can't remember when, best find those damn tickets!) Oh and Mastodon when they tour later this year - been told (by a mate who is a good authoritaaah on sorta thing) they rock rather hard and heavy but worth seeing live. |

Local shit that, I'd aboot 90% of the folks on this forum have neve rheard of...
reason ebing, I live in nowhereville, and I won't travel or spendabsurd ammounts ofmeny to go to a concert very oftne.
I might, I just might see hte Pixies in Houston.
And if they do indeed play Washington, D.C. and or Philly (of all fucking places) I may attend those....
other than that, my s**t is fairly boring... when it comes to paying money to listen to someone play live music...
I can play what I want to hear for free, and I am not even in debt... not to begomaniacala at all, I just love what I do...

Yeah, lots of local stuff. I'm going to see a Ween tribute band next week as well as Champion, Alberta (http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=11921). Last week, I went and saw Clann Zu, Fractal Pattern, No Birds (http://www.teargasrecordingtree.com/audio/heavymetalwillneverdie.mp3) which is a 12-piece band of 17 year olds playing instrumental orchestral rock, and Parades Against Parades.
But probably you've not heard of any of them. Going to see AC Newman Aug 1, a free Despistado show Aug 10, and that's about it. Sometimes there'll be like three awesome bands in one week, other times, only two or three in a month.

I'm going to see Ted Leo/Pharmacists on Monday - my first live Ted show - and I'm super-psyched. I've been spinning his last two full-lengths continuously for months. Great records, those. The club owner is letting me in early to set up my recording gear - I'm hoping to get a decent board feed and make a live "matrix" with that and my binaural mics mixed together.
I'll probably get a chance to meet Ted as a result, so those within 100 miles of Albany beware of the spectacular tidal wave of my gushing sycophancy. It. Will. Take. You. Out.

Well I got my tickets for me, my buddy and his girlfriend to see the Pixies at the Tweeter Center in December. I'm hoping to see mclusky again before that. Probably going to go see Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan next month. Hopefully some decent gigs for my band soon as well, and hopefully we'll finish our full length soon. I think I'm most excited for mclusky though and not even sure if it's going to happen they said they'd be back in November or October, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This summer is going to be one of the best in a long time for us, as far as live music goes. A lot of bands that we've loved forever, but never had the chance to see.
1. LOS STRAITJACKETS with DAVE ALVIN (great surf music, dress in Mexican wrestler costumes, totally nuts)
2. SECRET MACHINES
3. THE CURE, Blossom Music Ctr. in Cuyahoga (Cleveland)
4. DEVO!!, The Riviera, Chicago
5. GHOST, Wexner Performance Space, Columbus, OH (Japanese experimental rock band, around since early 80s, but I had never even heard them/heard of them)
6. PIXIES!!, Aragon, Chicago
And maybe some other random local shows, depending on whether they are good or not. For the most part local music here sucks (Columbus). |

I agree, but he sounds even more like Jack White. Especially on Knick Me Down.
I also can't wait to see 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster, I have never seen them before but I hear they are very good live, and their album is fantastic.
[EDIT] - I am going to V Festival and Reading Festival, but I don't have any regular gigs booked as yet. I have already been to about 20 this year so it's a bit annoying that nobody is playing Manchester that I fancy during the summer (fetivals to blame I guess).
I might check out Embrace in October, just for the memories.
I'm just waiting for the next wave of gigs to be announced.

Hey benj, Tanya should be good eh? I'll text you when I have the details.
I'm also off to a night called Brighton Rocks next Friday: 80's Matchbox, British Sea Power, Electrelane and, um, Electric Soft Parade. That is a fine line-up.
Kind regards, Dr. Simon Specialist In Broken Hearts |

I don't mean to be a jerk here, but it's only a "gig" for the band playing. Gig means job. The bands playing have a gig. Sorry again, don't mean to be rude, it's just a pet peave of mine.
As far as upcoming shows, the Pixies in September are the only major band I'm seeing, otherwise just local San Francisco bands. |

(Envy. I will have to play the age card and mention Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, both in 1975. I would trade the latter but not the former for Nirvana.) |

My dad saw Floyd twice. Once with Syd Barrett and once during the Dark Side of the Moon tour. He's seen a lot of great bands. Oh how I envy him.

I'm not going to be seeing that many concerts in the near future. I should be seeing TMBG twice this month, though. And the Pixies in December, but that's not exactly the "near future," is it?

pixies (again!) at V festival (Chelmsford) and whoever else is playing that day...
maybe they might be giants undertones (gf likes them) and i may get dragged to the delgados again.

80s Matchbox are good fun live - fast loud and intense! Saw them the day after the Kerrang awards last year where they had been thrown out the night before for being way too drunk. They went on to play a pitch perfect set! I was completely astounded to say the least. |

Ok Ok Ok,
Where when how why is PJ playing UK? thought shed done her uk tour?!?! Did i mis read?! Is it sold out!?!? I need details!!
Bumble - same questions for they might be giants!
I wanted to go see Sonic youth in september. I cant believe they are doing only ONE show. Thats ridiculous. Last time i looked the only tix available were for 4+ buying wise....and unfortunately not many of my friends like sonic youth, or if they do they are skint. damn it. probably sold out now anyways.
Just thought I'd throw that in there... |
