I had mine tested in 5th grade....about 20 years ago. Is that valid? I don't know what the numbers mean. I thought mine was average, but then I heard it was high. I hate standardized tests.

This is the first time I've ever mentioned it, because my family and teachers kept telling me 149 was average for fifth grade. My best friend, Wendy got "151". I was totally jealous. They told us we were average, but let us take BASIC, electronics, and creative writing classes with high school kids when we were 10.
I was always told I was just average and nothing special, so I majored in art, but found my way to IT.

So you guys have to do IQ tests at age 10 or whatever? That seems a little harsh. We have streaming by ability here to a certain extent, but nothing like ranking kids according to an arbitrary test.
Actually, saying that, there's now SATS tests here at age 7. How can you give a 7 yr old kid an exam? It seems ridiculous.
Basically, I'm angling for someone to tell me that 136 is clever.

From what I've read, that would be clever. Speaking in terms of Americans, I guess, I understand that 3% are at 130 or above and that the top 1% are 140 or above. Also, that two thirds are between 84 and 116, with one sixth above and one sixth below that range accordingly. Weird to think that if you randomly encountered people, one in six would have an IQ of about 85 or lower.
I've often encountered the opinion that IQ tests do a decent job of identifying the extremes of intelligence and its lack but are not that reliable for those in the middle. |

--I must be getting dumber. My whole family took IQ tests when I was in grade 10 or so and I scored 148, my step-father got 144 and he was so mad because i took about 5 minutes longer than him to finish.

Mine is somewhere around 137...My parents won't tell me what it is...but I know mine is higher than my dad's and his is 136. That's all I know.

i got a higher score the last time i took this, but i did it rather quickly this time. it's not accurate at all though. for those of you who don't know, iq (intelligence quotient) was originally supposed to be your "mental age" divided by your "physical age" X 100. the average score is meant to be 100.

i did one a few years ago and i got 139.
i was pissed cause my brother got 140.
but i beat my sister who got 137.
so it wasn't all bad.
but really, what is the point of knowing what your IQ is apart from skiting rights?

I took the Tickle test years back and got a 124, which would me me too, a word warrior...but I've also done other IQ tests so if you go by them, my IQ is anywhere from 124-156.
