after seeing a few of my favorite bands recently, i've realized that the trumpet is one of my favorite sounding instruments. a good trumpet solo will, almost always, make me feel very happy. i think it can be such an amazingly powerful addition to a band, when used sparingly and played well. it just sounds so fucking great!

i seriously want to take trumpet lessons. if i ever start a band you can bet there will be a trumpet player in it.

viva la trumpet!

Yes, it needs to be controlled, but the trumpet is a fantastic band addition...especially live. I don't like horn sounds so much on CD, it just doesn't seem like it comes out right. But live...ahhh...the highlight of any live performance.

I'm with you on this one floopsie! Trumpet damn fucking rocks! I LOOOOVE them. I was actually thinking about joining the Légion Etrangère, just because I like the trumpet so much. But I didn't like some other things about the army, especially all that being killed stuff...

I like any brass instruments, but trumpet is especially ace. Good call floopster.
cf. Manitoba, all Miles Davis (there's the example where it sounds good recorded Calistanian), 'All You Need Is Love' (dooby dooby doo)...

I like the horn section in Rocket From the Crypt.

One of Cake's cooler features was their trumpet. They had some good songs, but their sound gets old quickly in my opinion.

I fully agree. The biggest problem I have with Cake is that the singer really can't sing. I mean, he just talks. every song is him just talking.

there is great trumpet in:

Belle and Sebastian
AC Newman
Beulah
(some) Beck

who else?

sugarcubes!

were those horns real?

if gold had a sound, it would be the trumpet.

ribbons of gold flowing up and out, waking everyone up. that was nicholas payton for me. i love him.

i disagree, mister.

too much warmth. a pedal steel is obviously the ripples on a lake around where a stone is thrown. probably in the morning.

some flutes sound silver.

what sounds red? blue?

warm wishes and fond regards,

betty

I love Rocket. Appolo and JC add so much with the horn section.

I have just taken a trumpet player on for our band, The Last Men On Earth.

On a serious note, did anyone ever hear the live version of Smells Like Teen Spirit, with Flea from RHCP playing trumpet? Was better than I expected.

Bad Plus rock. My brother and my friend met those guys when they played here in town recently. They played their version of Velouria at the show. Wish I'd made it to that show. I really like their cover of the Aphex Twin song Flim.

Some great trumpet on Springsteen's Born To Run album.

Bacharach! Is it trumpet on Close To You? Ah, the sound of childhood.

I checked out Beulah after Floop's T-shirt post. Good music, yep they use the trumpet a lot.

offerw, glad you checked out Beulah! sadly, they're breaking up. i got to see their farewell San Francisco show just a month ago. they're playing ONE more show, a free show in NY in September, if you're lucky enough to go. fucking GREAT live! one of my favorite bands right now.

Damn galoof, I don't know from shinola what happened. Thing is, I knew he played sax, so I can't imagine what the hell I was thinking. Dumb dumb dumb dumb! Thanks for setting the record straight, though.

I'm going to go wear my dunce cap and shake quietly in the corner now. Oh well, at least I'm not as dumb as floop.

i changed my response because it was too jokey, and i wanted to make the point more clear that your comment was rude.

don't say "i was just kidding" becasue there's nothing really funny about flat out calling someone else dumb.
