Okay then. I guess it was kinda suggested to make this a topic all of it's very own. So here it is. Cover tunes, cover tunes... hrmmm... and what were they thinking...

Thinking one of my all time favorite covers is the Swans version of "Love Will Tear Us Apart." Kinda feel like they did that one justice.
On the scarey side... whatever in the H E double matchsticks they did to "How Soon Is Now?" for the dreadful TV show about witches just... well... *SHUDDER*

Jimi Hendrix covering "All Along the Watchtower" is brilliant. The best cover I know of. Sorry Dylan, but his version kicks your ass.

Two semi-related covers - Sebadoh covering "Pink Moon" and Lou Barlow doing "Run To You." I really like those a bunch.

On the just downright puzzling side... very recent No Doubt cover of Talk, Talk's "It's My Life." Errrr. Hrmmm. I guess I mighta needed a flashback to Talk, Talk? *SHRUG*

ramones cover of "take as it comes" and siouxsie and the banshees' version of "helter skelter" are the two best covered songs i can think of. and big black covering kraftwerk's "the model". and frank black doing "this is where i belong" which i find much better than the original version.

A few people have covered Big Yellow Taxi.

I thought Weezer's cover of Velouria was pretty good. Obviously the songs that Pixies covered are all very good, but yeah I think the Hendrix version of 'All along....' is a lot better than Dylan's. Brilliant.

*gag*

Do you really think Weezer's cover is good? The only thing they did to change it was take out all of the cool stuff...hahaha..

The White Stripes version of Jolene is very good also.

Oh and when I saw Ash cover Only In Dreams by Weezer live, that was very very good. I love that song so much.

Going to have to disagree with you guys and say that for my money Dylans version of All Along the Watchtower from John Wesling Harding is much better than Hendrix's cover version. Just think that song should be played the way it was originally. I also think that Neil Young's version is better than Hendrix even if both versions are in the same vein.

Never heard Neil Young's version. I would be surprised if I prefer it to Hendrix's, especially as it is in the same vein as Dylan.

speaking of being in the same vein, billy idol's cd singles covers of heroin by VU has a few good versions (not saying they are better than the original), and his version of LA women ain't so bad either.

Nirvana - Turnaround (Devo)

This song kicks ass, and is begging for some sort of DJ Club mix.

Oh Ho Monkey Boy... After half an hour of frantic searching in my CD singles Box I found the Abba Esque EP! I put it on REAL LOUD!

I am now dedicating this one woman Karaoke dancing round her flat in her pyjamas to YOU!

I wasn't jealous before we met/ Now every woman I see is a potential threat/ And I'm possessive it isn't nice/ You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice/ But now it isn't true/ Now everything is new/ And all I've learned has overturned/ I beg of you.../ Don't go wasting your emotion/ Lay all your love on meeeeeeeeeeee/ Don't go sharing your devotion/ Lay all your lov on meeeeee/ It was like shooting a sitting duck/ A little small talk, a smile and baby I was stuck/ I still don't know what you've done with me/ A grown - up woman should never fall so easily/ I feel a kind of fear/
When I don't have you near/ Unsatisfied, I skip my pride
I beg you dear.../ Don't go wasting your emotion/ Lay all your love on me/ Don't go sharing your devotion/ Lay all your love on me/I've had a few little love affairs/ They didn't last very long and they've been pretty scarce/ I used to think that was sensible
It makes the truth even more incomprehensible/'Cause everything is new/ And everything is you/ And all I've learned has overturned
What can I do.../

Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on MEEEEEE
Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on MEEEEE

and that was most definately *sung in a camp electronic styleeeeeeeee*
