Just thought I'd mention that this album is majestic. Absolutely one of the best I've ever heard. And he draws a lot from FB, believe it or not. Some of the same songwriting methods, like skipping the fourth chord in a chord sequence.

An absolute genius. I knew he had this in him, some of his earlier work showed signs of this brilliance.

And go see Eternal Sunshine. And rent Big Fish, if you haven't already.

My two cents for the month.

I have seen both those films, and they were both excellent.

Mark Ruffalo (stan) is a hottie. Enternal Sunshine is worth it just for him.

I really like Hour of Bewilderbeast but the soundtrack album (for about a boy) and Don't forget to feed the fish (is that what it was called?)were pretty shit. I'll give the new album a listen though.

My god, the more I listen to One Plus One Is One, the more I am in awe of Damon Gough's genius. May not be everybody's cuppatea though, and some people say it takes a few listens before it sinks in. I was however immediately captivated when I first heard it.

Wait a minute. What the hell is up with all these hip indie guys and their bad math with 1's? This Badly Drawn Boy guy Damon has a song called One Plus One Is One, and Steve Malkmus has a song called One Percent of One, and in it he says, "One Percent of One is One." No it's not! And 1 + 1 = 2, not 1, dammit! The kids are gonna learn it all wrong!

Yeah, but we can safely ignore them. They also sit in corners gibbering to themselves, and we don't all do that, do we? Do we?

Kind regards,

They nicked that from Mr. Blair.

I heard Mr. Drawn Boy saying he was sitting in his garden, thinking "if one multiplied by one equals one, and one divided by one equals one, then one plus one must equal one".

I was just listening to Badly Drawn Boy recently.
He's got a new album out, right? I was thinking of getting it, does anyone know if it's good?

Whoa, this thread is old.

One Percent of One is One - Stephen Malkmus

I wouldn't mind if Badly Drawn Boy disappeared forever. About a Boy was a funny movie, though.

I love Something To Talk About. And River, Sea, Ocean is a pretty nice tune, too.

Badly Drawn Boy's latest is 'Born In The UK' and it's great. Like Cartland, I think musically there are similarities to Frank Black although BDB is quintessentially British. Definately worth investigating - best album, for me, is 'Have You Fed The Fish' (probably because I associate it with a golden period in my life) but 'Hour Of Bewilderbeast' is a weird and wonderfull classic.

I've been thinking of getting it. The video for "Nothing's Gonna Change Your Mind" is awesome. Oh, the song's good too.
