Heard nice bits of them, going to bed now to listen to Team Boo, sounds great, just a drummer and pianist, they're a very photogenic pair. Sound abit like that band that the drummer from Sleater Kiney had, they were good but I can't remeber their name. Good night!.

This burn out kid I know saw them open for the Strokes and couldn't stop talking about Mates of State. He was like, "Man, it's like this really happy organ music. It's really fucking good, man." I finally heard some from a different friend of mine. I'm not sure how I felt about it. Everything I heard was really fast and bright but I wasn't really able to latch onto any of the melodies or hooks. But I can't make any judgements from listening once.

The kid that always talks about them is a funny character. One night me, him and my roommate were all having a guitar jam, just playing away w/o any direction. When we got done, the kid said, "Man, that was really amazing. I was doing some great stuff there." And my roommate said, "You know, some of the stuff you were playing reminded me of Django Reinhardt. You know Django?" And the kid says, "No. What I was doing was original, right? Like, brand new shit." He kept on talking about how awesome he was, stroking his own ego. Finally, he mentioned that we had been playing, too. "Wow. I mean, that was, like, art. I was expressing myself. And you guys helped me do that, so that's cool." He's a weird kid. My roommate was saying the next day, "God, can you imagine what it's like for girls who have sex with that kid? He's probably like, 'Wow, I was really incredible there. I was doing some amazing things. No man has ever done that to you before, has he? At least not like that. I was really original there."

"You gotta watch the mota, Thurston. Yr fuckin memory just goes out the window."

Ha ha Django Reinhardt, I love his little talking bits on his records, my friend used to always play his stuff when we used to get trashed along time ago. Hmmm, Mates of State,(I could'nt get to seep), not as good as I expected, I thought I was going to find a new band I really liked, but something about their singing really put me off. It's that really affected American accent? It's like 'Ammerioca!' instead of just 'America'? I don't know, most other American bands and singers just sound like their singing but in the last couple of years I've noticed bands have to sound really American, Moudest Mouse, Built to Spill, American Football, At The Drive In, none of which I really like? Maybe it's just their fault for being American

American Football is a side project of Joan of Arc. That's about all I know. I think a friend of mine was in a band that opened for them, but I could be mistaken. It was some side project of Joan of Arc that he opened for. Anyway, I've listened to snippets of American Football but not enough to form an opinion that I feel comfortable expressing (just like Mates of State). Hell, I can't even remember what it sounded like, though it was reminiscent of Joan of Arc. I'm surprised Joan of Arc hasn't been mentioned more around here. I'm not a huge fan, but they've got some songs I really like, espeically that one "Ne Mosquitos Pass" and that song that goes, "You've got such a pretty voice but you've gotta get so fucked up to sing." Now that I think of it, I'm going to post a topic which I reminded of while thinking of that song. Man, am I drunk and stoned.
