Scarla O' Play Betsey Trotwood's (56 Farringdon Road, London) 22nd June 9pm
When the janitor in John Kennedy Toole’s book ‘A Confederacy of Dunces’ finds himself having to deal with a particularly awkward character he asks himself “who does she think she is…Scarla O’ Horror?” and whilst the band of the same name are indubitably better behaved, one wishes one could say the same thing about their music - come the revolution, you can rest assured that Scarla O’ will have Light Entertainment Corps blind-fold and up against the wall.
With angular guitars, eccentric piano lines and lyrics that boldly stomp on the line between the absurd and the genius – you know this is a divisive band, and one for whom there is no such thing as the middle way - either you’re with them or you’re against them. I like my music to sound as though the sound waves have travelled light years before finally finding me, and if you are like me in this respect then you can rest assured that Scarla O’ are the band for you.
