Yeah, iTunes is ridiculous. You have to have an American credit card and Windows XP or above (the latter being the reason I can't use it). And doesn't it cost 99 cents for one song? Still, I'll probably use it if I ever get a new computer, if only to download "Bam Thwok" and the missing Show Me Your Tears tracks. Unless those become available in some other way in the near future.

For 'Holiday Song':
Get Kazar and download it from another user, that's what I did. I mean, a bit naughty, but the Pixies and Frank Black have seen plenty of my money over the years and you gotta get that song, it's so cool! |

What is above WinXP? I thought that Longhorn wouldn't be available before 2006.

Please don't touch Kazaa with a 10ft pole - it's riddled with spyware and adware and will make your computing life a living hell (speaking from painful experience)

What is above WinXP?
I don't know if anything is. I think you can also use iTunes with Windows 2000, but I'm not sure whether that's more primitive than XP, or just different. (Isn't 2000 an updated NT, or something like that?)

WinXp (Windows XP) is Microsoft's current 32 bit operating system available as a 'Home' (sucessor to Win 98) or 'Professional' (sucessor to Win 2000 and Win NT )editions.
Windows 2000, suceeded Windows NT, but is not as advanced as XP. |

Oh yeah - 'Lomghorn' is the planned sucessor to Windows XP, which moves the operating system to a 64 bit architecture. |

Yeah, iTunes uses Windows 2000 and XP--since 2000 and XP are pretty much the same thing deep down. There are kernel differences but not so much that makes a difference to most users. Everyone will notice the different interface and the product activation though.
Anyway, to some earlier comments...
Yeah, before Windows 2000 there were two kinds of Windows. 9X and NT. 9X was cool because you could play all of the Windows games on it fairly easily. NT was cool because it crashed less.
9X line: 95, 98, Me NT line: NT (all versions), 2000, XP (all versions), 2003
When 2000 was released you finally had an NT OS that had all of the features that 9X had--in other words you could play all the games. But it wasn't marketed at home users. It wasn't until XP Home Edition that Microsoft marketed an NT operating system to home users. Now 9X is dead, and NT is all there is. Granted, nothing is called "Windows NT" anymore, but that's what 2000, XP (all editions) and 2003 (not pitched at home users...a lot of people seem to have never heard of it!) are. |
