The skin of a Hedgehog is so thick that it doesn't split when you run them over. Instead, their guts gets forced out through its mouth and its arse.

When i first heaard that, it was because of these two swans that were in a pond near my house, that i used to see everyday..and one died, and then the other did too. the vet guy told me it always happens. I cried for days.
Funny you should mention that. Yesterday I was composing a post on swans when a lightning strike zapped my computer, so I blew off the post. But, not to be contradictory, here's a story about Olivia and Sigmund, our campus couple. After at least twelve years together, last winter Sigmund was found barely alive partially frozen into pond ice and died shortly later. Olivia was clearly distraught for weeks but seems to have made a recovery. Though the couple had produced a brood each year till then, I guess Sigmund hadn't done his duty before he died so no clutch this year. In response the keepers decided to allow the previous year's offspring, two charming young ladies, to remain with her, and introduced a new young stud who was initially roundly rejected by the three ladies. However, peace seems to have prevailed and we now await what is expected to be a new pairing. Whom will he choose? Or who will accept him, if anyone? Of course Olivia is the matriarch, but she's showing her age. The daughters are peppy but unproven. I too love the swans and try to visit them daily to provide some weeds they seem fond of. |

I've been wanting to read all the posts and reply to thist hread since GD started it, but I've been so busy at work, I just now got the chance to read most everything everyone's posted...
This is what I think about the topic:
I am single and have been since New Year's day. My last relationship put a real bitter taste in my mouth, because I had to end it... I've always been someone who wants a girlfriend. But throughout mylife, my relationships have always been short, or off and on. I used to sleep around when I was in college and the years after, but no it's different.
My last girlfiend I really thought was the one for me, but then our relationship became an obligation to me, it felt like I got off from work and then I had to be the boyfriend, which was just as bad at work. I miss having someone to share each day with, but I don't miss feeling an unwarranted obligation to give myself to her and get nothing in return. That's not a good relationship.
My girlfriend before that was a rich girl from Texas who just wanted to be someone's trophy wife, and I didn't have enough money and wasn'trepublican enough for her.
After my last realtionship I became very misanthropic in general, I became a recluse. Since the Spring and now that Summer is in full swing, I've started to miss having someone.
The problem is, I just basically have lost hope in finding someone that I can truly enjoy being committed to...
But it hurts so bad, I just want someone to hold me, and fall asleep on the couch together...
Oh well...
I'm fucking so tired right now, I just had to spill my guts a little before I go to sleep, I've just been wanting to be a part of this thread

I've been single since November. It sort of sucks for me. Because I'm kind of a lonely guy. I get really down and depressed. Wonder why it had to end the way it did. I still care for my ex-g/f and we've stayed friends since. I'm also not much of a playa. I can't really talk to people that well. And if I do, I can't read signals at all. I would have no idea if a girl was interested in me or not. So it's not that great for me. I've been talkin to this one girl for a while and things started to go well between us. I'd start to date her and maybe go steady if she didn't, you know, live on the other side of the country (I'm in California and she's in Virginia). Yeah, I'll shut up now... I'm sure you guys don't want to hear me bitch about being alone.

I understand what you mean, ive been single for around the same amount of time. but, as ive said, im actually enjoying it. Obviously every nown again i want some one to be there to hold me etc, but its not big deal to me. I like being by myself, and I have various guys here and there. am having fun being a player.

Still pretty new to this forum... tho certainly no stranger to the internet or the Pixies. Hope it's okay to chime in to this thread and all...
Pretty much been single for around a year or so now. That's kind of long stretch of time for me. Dated some in the meantime, but not much. Kind of enjoying being alone... same old sort of missing having someone around, but *YAGH* Every time anyone even gets remotely close I either do something insanely stupid or just wind up wishing I was at home, by myself. And going home. Whaddup with that?

Well considering its only simon - who has a girlfriend, Benji who has a wife(well, technically quite a few..you included...), and you....its looking quite doubtful!

I know exactly how you feel, Little Black Francis. My ex ended our relationship after two years, I can admit it had a great deal to do with my inability to show her my true feelings, however its all turned out for the best, these things have a way of sorting themselves out and why get upset, if this person was never meant for me anyway?
Although I cant help but think about the good times we’d have sitting around watching movies. I think its best to just enjoy being single and have fun with our friends, although it seems like all I do is drink and play my ps2 every night, but that’s not so bad :p

Last night I was sitting on MY couch and thinking "where is my boy? What is taking him so long?" My friend and I were discussing this other boy I know and why he sucks and she said "he just isn't The One", and I said, "Yeah...stupid 'The One'".
My best friend always tells me "nature abhors a vaccuum" and I do think there is someone for everyone.
I just hope we all find our 'someone'.

Ive been in love twice. (sounds ridiculous for my age..but believe me, I know the difference). Both were 'The Ones' for that peroid in my life.
The idea that theres only one ...i dont know..i dislik it.
In a fairy tale world, it would b lovely to believe, and, despite what ya may think, im a real romantic underneath all of it...I just dont think that in this day and age there can only be one. ...I just, i just hope theres not only one. If there is then ive already lost mine. Before i truly was even with him!

I don't know if I think there is only ONE, but I think we each have at least one and right now I am looking for The One, and I believe I will get what I need right now. Maybe if I met The One in ten years he would be different then The One I might meet tomorrow.
I think you can be in love with someone who is not your "meant to be with" person, we all get who we need when we need them. And it is obviously all just my opinion. I have no idea how it is going to work out for me, or how it will work for anyone else.
My opinion could have been very different when I was younger. I was convinced I had met The Person more than once, and I am sure I will be again.

I am not saying there is only one that you will ever be with, I am saying there is a concept of "The One" - a person who is RIGHT for you in the long term, the person you are going to end up with, the other half, etc. It is different (to me) than saying you are only going to be in love with one person in your whole life. It's a silly, naive idea in a lot of ways, but that is kind of the point.
Basically I am not saying there is "only one" - I am saying there is The One. It's different.
