Westwood One "THE FAX" TUESDAY JUNE 15, 2004 TODAY'S TOP STORIES - Pixies, Dashboard Confessional, Pleasure Club
New Song Arrives From Pixie Dust Though The Pixies have been on the road for most of the spring, the group did find time to record new music and quietly put it out to the public. The reunited rockers wrote and recorded "Bam Thwok," their first new single in thirteen years. Kim Deal sings lead on the track, now available at iTunes for .99. The band recorded the track in March while rehearsing for their first massive reunion trek. Deal says the song started from an old art book she found discarded on a city street years ago. "From the handwriting, you could tell that this book must have belonged to a little kid. This kid had written a short story, a paragraph really, about a party that took place in another universe, about people and monsters that were partying together. That's what provided the inspiration for the lyrics," explained Deal. The track also features an organ solo performed by Joey Santiago's father many years ago. The group plans to work the song into their sets during upcoming U.S. and European dates.
From Tuesday's MTV Radio/"The Morning Facts" for Alt/Rock: NEW PIXIES SONG. The Pixies have recorded a new song, "Bam Thwok," their first original track in 13 years. The song is being released exclusively through Apple's iTunes Music Store starting Tuesday at midnight. The song features Kim Deal singing lyrics from a discarded children's art book she found on the street many years ago: "Bosses in offices on automatic drip/ They got the keys to the city/ But we got a lotta shaking in our hips." The Pixies recorded "Bam Thwok" in Los Angeles in March while the band was practicing for its recent reunion tour.
