Music festival this weekend, I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, I guess because it's in the middle of Tennessee, no offense (I was born there).

My buddy, the avant garde photographer called me from the festival at work to let me know he just saw Grandaddy and he got some great photos. I was very jealous. Hopefully his site will be up soon so you can check out the photos if you want to.

Sounds like a pretty good time though.

I was just wondering if anyone else attended or had any interest or good info on the weekend.

Bands I would have liked to have seen:

Wilco
Bob Dylan
Yo La Tengo
Los Lobos
Damien Rice
Ween
Grandaddy
David Byrne

Peace

BTW

here's "a" link http://www.bonnaroo.com/swf-txt/base.html

I know it's proabably more "hippy" than most people here would care for, but Grandaddy is in my top 5 bands I listen to... I've never seen them live :(

Oh yeah, he also said, I'm not sure where or how yet, but the grandaddy show will be available for d/l... sounds good

Hey, sounds neat -would've been cool to have seen Byrne. Doc Watson!

Strange mix. My Morning Jacket is kinda nice, and from my hometown (Louisville, KY) too.
But then there's crap like Dave Mathews...and String Cheese Incident. yick. Then Primus?? wtf.

I've never seen any of these bands live also

Wilco
Bob Dylan
Yo La Tengo
Los Lobos
Damien Rice
Ween
Grandaddy
David Byrne

I saw Primus open for U2 on the Zoo TV tour 92 (age 15)

And I confess, when I was in highschool back in the early 90's, Dave Mathews and Phish played in my town, there's 40,000 people in this county, and this county is huge... when the city pokes it's head on my backdoor, I'm at least going to witness it.... but that was 10, 12 years ago

(Edit, shit, I did see the Dylan open for the dead in 92 or 93, but I was just a kid fucked up)

I don't get the joke.

I don't mean to step on toes or be more alternative than thou, but I never heard anything from David Byrne after Remain in Light and The Catherine Wheel that I liked. But I am way out of date; has he gotten better in the last several years? I know a while back he was selling some pure crap that he slapped together using PowerPoint and calling it art. It was hard not to laugh.

No joke. Just noticed Doc Watson on the bill while I was typing - there's another living legend.

I haven't heard much of anything from solo Byrne except for seeing him on Sessions at West 57th(?) doing a rousing cover of Kraftwerk's "The Model". I admire the man, and it would be cool to get to hear and see him live.

90,000 people attended. Amazing.

As WolfManMikeLonely mentioned, here is the story.

As for the 2 dead folks, it was a mother and her 20 something year old son... My friend said they died of "unknown causes" but he's thinking it was a drug OD... anyway

Umm...Read the article, I think your friend is kinda copying them..haha...they've suspected it to be a drug overdose from the very beginning, and the "mother" was 22...so...I don't think she had the kid when she was 2...I hope not atleast, hahaha. Meep, hope I didn't sound too mean, haha.

I had a fucking blast although I am still recovering from the heat and muddiness! Bands that I saw:

New Monsoon
Wilco
David Byrne
Ween
My Morning Jacket
String Cheese Incident
Praxis
Yo La Tango
Dave Matthews w/ Trey - Girlfriend Made me go
Bill Laswell's Material

All in all a great time except for the knee-high mud and losing 2 pairs of sandels in the slop. I am happy that I skipped Trey on the last night and was in Indy by 3am for shower and sleep. it took 7 hours to get into the campground and about 1 hour to get out. Very fun and a complete overload of shit to do. They had a 24 hour movie theater playing cult classics, they had stand up comedians and comedy troops doing shows (upright citizens brigade) and 6 stages with music going into the wee hours of the morning. Ween was awesome but completely out of their usual style stopped playing 15 minutes before their scheduled stop time. I was 10 feet from the stage and it was incredible. Deaner smashed an acoustic guitar on stage to voice his concern to Gener that it was time to play electric. Wilco was mesmerizing!! My Morning Jacket - wow! If you have a chance to check these guys out - do so.

If you ever decide to go to this festival do not go early - we got stuck camping 45 minute walk to the main stage - which sucked. You are then forced to eat the shitty food vendors in or close to the venue. Lots of mind altering chemicals everywhere you look.

But this was an experience that I would not trade for anything. Security basically let you bring in anything you wanted(I brought Absolut & Tonic in my CamelBack everyday)as long as it did not hurt anyone except yourself.

Great time!!! I will definately go next year. Hopefully, there will be less hippy bands and more "alternative" bands. Primus playing at the same time as Ween kinda sucked but that was a no brainer for me - WEEN!!!!!

Wow. That sounds just amazing. I think we will try to go next year, if, as you suggested, they bring in better bands. Or even if they don't. Sounds like there was plenty of other fun stuff to do!

Did you see any of those cult classics?

Do you guys know we just passed thru a BLACK HOLE in space?

Yah... almost went with a friend to yon Bonnaroo. Kinda changed my mind at the last minute. She called today and regaled me with tales of being up to her knees in mud and hiding under a sound board in the rain asking herself just why oh why she was there. Heh.

She was quite happy about seeing David Byrne tho.

Even w/ there being so many musical artists I'd want to see, like Yo La Tengo, Wilco, Ween, David Byrne, I didn't have much interest in Bonnaroo simply because of the whole drug/hippy scene that flocks there. I figured it'd be too much.
A couple nights ago I was at a party and got talking with these two super attractive girls who said I reminded them of David Byrne. They said they'd just been at Bonnaroo and it was incredible. They just tune out the whole drug culture around them and enjoy the music and the people. They want me to go next year. Maybe I will, as long as there is a lineup worth the money (and I have the money).

I've seen Bob Dylan live but I would love to see David Byrne, Wilco, and Damien Rice. Sounds cool anyway.

See, I've seen both Wilco and Ween live, but wouldn't mind seeing them again. I'd really like to see David Byrne and Yo La Tengo (even though I don't listen to Yo La Tengo much) because I know both of those would be amazing shows.
