When I first saw SCTV, it was 1978 or so. My childhood home of upstate New York featured a CBC channel re-broacast so I was able to catch some of those early SCTV shows.

We didn't have a VCR in the late 70s (not many families did) but the brilliance of this show was not lost on me, a ten-year old goofy kid. So I recorded them to audio cassette as they were originally broadcast with one of those big Panasonic cassette recorders. I listened to those tapes for years later and I memorized everything!

So when the 5 DVD set was finally available last week, I snatched it up. It's a great set and certainly worth owning. But notably absent was the CCCP1 Russian Television Takeover, Doorway to Hell with Mr. Wilcox and the Dummy, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, New York Rhapsody with Eugene Fodor, The Jazz Singer with Al Jarreau and many many other skits. They say other DVD collections will come later which will include these gems.

I know there are a lot of kanucks on this board so I hope I'm not alone in my excitement!

*pulls a very confused face*

If we know for sure that rock ’n’ roll is truly the devil’s music—at least he fucking jams! And if it’s a choice between good tunes and eternal damnation, or eternal heaven and New Kids on the Fucking Block... I’m gonna be surfing on the Lake of Fire, rocking out

I'm pretty sure that I'll be getting paid, I see no reason to have to check...

I'm glad there are other SCTV fans on here, seeing that the show is alluded to in a Frank song (At the End of the World) I guess it makes sense. I've been waiting FOREVER for these and had the discs pre-oredered on Amazon back in March. Got them on Wednesday of last week. It's really great to see the 90 minute shows uncut. The extra features are well done and the commentary with Levy and Flaherty is TOO COOL. The dvds are great and Polynesiantown has always been one of my very favorite movies. Unfortunately I haven't yet seen Teacher's Pet with the Boomtown Rats, probably on a future disc. Both Mel's Rock Piles, one with Roy Orbison(!) and the other with Dave Thomas as Richard Harris are also among my favorite sketches. I can't think of ANY dvd I'd pay 65 bucks for, but did so here without any hesitation and am glad I did.

I did the same pre-order in March, only I got three of them: one for me and one for each of my siblings, who also grew up with the show. I've said that SCTV must take the credit/blame for molding my sense of humor.

In the extra features on the last disc, Harold Ramis take a pretty big jab at Chevy Chase during a panel discussion and that was very funny too.
