Don't know if this is posted yet, but I was wondering:
were the Pixies popular in Japan??? Seems so weird. It feels like just Europe and North America are 'made' for them... Or is it just CT who prefers these two continents?

from talking to my japanese friends here, theyve surprised me a bit given a lot of the music they listen to, they are often totally unaware of the pixies. saying that, the pixies never played here and are only doing 1 show on the reunion tour at the fuji rock festival. bands that come over here and play tend to get a lot of exposure, so it doesnt surprise me that they havent. i wouldnt say theyre made for the US or europe given that there are bands here who definitely sound like theyve been influenced by them.

In Japan they weren't popular at all until their breakup. But in the '90s, as "the alternative rock" was in the spotlight, Pixies were appreciated by degrees. They were looked on as the father of "the alternative rock" bands like Nirvala and Radiohead.
Now, they were not so popular yet...They are not as popular as Dinosaur Jr.,The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Weezer. But probably they are more popular than Husker Du ....They are as popular as PJ Harvey, I think.
Anyway I just can't hardly wait their first coming to Japan in this summer.
