After watching this boring band called The Rasmus, and another hour in the pouring rain, the Pixies finally came on stage. They started a short soundcheck and kicked off with Bone machine.
Here's the songs they played, with some additional info to some of them:
-Bone machine -Something against you -Broken face -Gigantic -Where is my mind? (end) -Vamos -Caribou -Holiday song -Nimrod's son -Debaser -Tame -Wave of mutilation -I bleed -Here comes your man -Dead -Monkey gone to heaven -Hey -Gouge away -U-mass -IN HEAVEN
-Dave who has had a HAIRCUT (you may call him another 'baldie' now) messed up the starting drumparts of Bone machine
-Kim messed up the first bassparts of her own song... (Gigantic) She acted like she had to figure it out again, like she hadn't played it for years
-Vamos! Joseph Alberto Santiago!!! This man is a true ROCK-GOD! Incredible. First, he just fooled around with all of his pedals and fuzzboxes, then Chuck stepped back, Joey placed his Les Paul in a standard beneath CT's mike. He stepped on a few pedals to create some strange noises and pointed his hands towards his guitar, like he was saying:"see? I can do magic!" Then he threw his pick towards his guitar. At the exact moment it fell on the stage floor he created a huge 'crash sound' After that he asked Dave for a drumstick, who drummed further with one stick. He played a furious solo with it. During all this, he really seemed in his element. I thought he should be shy, afraid of looking into they audience... No way!!! A rockstar he sure is!
-In another song the timing of all instruments was not quite right, don't remember which song
-After listening to 15 of the reunion-concerts, I know the new bassline from In heaven by heart, and when Kim started I suddenly screamed: "mijn god, oh yeeeaaaaaaah!", which is dutch for:"My god, oh yeeeaaaaaaah!" And when I did that, I did it in a Black Frances kind of way... haha
-The rest of the songs were just perfect, it's clear they're a well-rehearsed band, can't wait to see them doing their trick again in july
-Charles wore (eyeliner? I think not) a light blue longsleeved shirt, Kim a bright red sweater, Joey a pale brown hooded sweater, and Dave a white blouse and a white necklace
-They didn't talk much, all I can recall is that Kim said "than you" twice, and Frank thaked the audience at the end of the show, during Where is my mind?.
They seemed in a 'bad' mood when they started, but after a few songs they seemed to have warmed up. Kim was smiling during the whole show, laughing about things that happened in the audience. Charles looked very happy with his band, was very patient during parts when he didn't have to play guitar, he enjoyed watching Joey play, had fun with Kim, seemed PROUD of the other bandmembers. They all had some strange kind of emotion showed on their faces. Like: 'here we are, this is our music, you better like it, cause it's pretty cool!, but not in an arrogant way. Good to see all of them are enjoying doing this so much. They didn't walk off stage immediately after the show, but took their time to 'consume' the cheers and applauding from the crowd.
When they left the stage and the crowd yelled for more, the organizer of the Pinkpop festival announced an extra gig in the tour, at the 6th of july in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, two day after the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium. Anyone who bought a Pixies shirt could get another red shirt with the text: Extra show 6 july Heineken Music Hall
Well that's about it. Nice to know I'll be seeing them three times during this tour. Hopefully another time during the 2005/2006 tour
More about that in a brandnew topic tomorrow. I can tell you this to make you hungry: IT'S ABOUT A CONVERSATION WITH ERROL THOMPSON IV!!! In other words: I met Frank's brother on my way home, and HE SAT NEXT TO ME IN THE TRAIN!!! (and I talked to him for about an hour)
to be continued...
I'm bored with the valleys and bored by the peaks. So I bought a ticket to the freaks |
