I caught this (very) low-budget indie flick on IFC a few nights ago. It sounded interesting; it's about a man, Caveh Zahedi, who recorded a video diary for each day of the year 1999. The movie is comprised of the most interesting moments.

It wasn't nearly as cool as it should have been. It mostly consisted of fight after fight between Zahedi and his girlfriend, and stuff like, "I masturbated today," in a really woe-is-me type of voice.

I wouldn't have watched it beyond the first five minutes at all if Zahedi didn't have such a kick-ass musical palette. One of the first diary entries consists of him going on about how much he loves his most recent purchase: Frank Black and the Catholics; he shows a close-up of the cover and then there's footage of him playing "All My Ghosts" and singing and dancing along!

Zahedi then says Frank is one of his favorite musicians, and most surprisingly of all, he reveals that he's going to be interviewing the man by phone later that day! And sure enough, he receives a call from Mr. Black himself. You don't get to hear the whole interview, unfortunately...

So that hooked me, and I sat through the whole thing. And despite the boring stuff, I'm glad I did, because later on he introduces a group he likes called The Innocence Mission and plays their song "Snow," which has completely overtaken my brain. Seek out this song on Soulseek, because it really is enthralling.

That's that.

I watched about five minutes of this today.

He was in a hospital talking to his Dad.

Didn't catch any music.

I started watching it for the same reason too. I was like "wait a sceond here ... Frank Black?" I liked the way the interview began with Frank obviously peppering him with questions about his name and heritage.

Does anyone know what song he was dancing too when he was spinning around and around after some astrology book told him he needs to dance more? It sounded very Pavement like.

Yep, it was them. I'm struggling to remember what song it was, but I think it was definitely something off of their first album; "Summer Babe" perhaps?
