I am more than sympathetic to any and all anti-hippy tirades, especially if they focus on the more annoying aspects of their culture, such as the music of Greatful Dead, Phish, et al. In fact, a friend of mine used to have this great parody website, the "Anti-Hippie Action League" or something like that. Amazingly, people actually took it seriously and the hate mail was a great source of even more comedy, not to mention case studies in psychopathology.
What I'm getting at, is that I think sometimes folks tend to argue that that music such as Phish, Greatful Dead, etc, is just not cool by virtue of it's nostalgia factor. In other words, because the hippie trend started, and as far as we pop culture savants are concerned, ended in the sixties, it is therefore dead on arrival.
But, if that line of reasoning is valid, then there is nothing stopping us from applying it to all other rock music, particularly everything we hold dear here on this message board. I mean... Let's start with Velvet Underground (60s), Stooges (60s), David Bowie (60s), New York Dolls (70s), Ramones (70s), etc etc etc etc etc. It's old man. Face it. Does that make it less cool? I don't think so. Maybe to some snot-nose thirteen year-old jackass who doesn't have the good sense to properly wash himself after jerking off, but not to a sensible gentleman like myself.
I don't doubt for one second that most if not all of you all are already aware of this inherent contradiction in the crucial field of anti-hippy politics. I thought it would be a good time to remind us all however.
After all, let's get to the point. Hippies stink and play annoying music. Many need a shave, including the ladies I'm afraid. If you like to smoke grass however, you will sooner or later have to deal with them, or at least so it was in my experience. Many of them had an annoying snobbery about their weed smoking habits and were in short, full of shit. More than likely they'd sell you shit or sell you short and just in general overcharge you. I don't smoke that shit, or anything, anymore, but I thought it worth mentioning here as we end this little interruption of normal programming. Please excuse the pedantic tone.
