This little article was published in the Icelandic tabloid DV today (a rough translation):
"The Pixies will have big concerts tonight and tomorrow night in Kaplakriki. The concerts will be the first of the European tour of the band, which has just reunited after a thirteen year break. It is still possible to get tickets for the concert tonight.
PIXIES STILL NOT THE BEST OF FRIENDS BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN BETTER
The Pixies will play, as many know, tonight and tomorrow night in Kaplakriki. The concert tonight will be the first they play in Europe in thirteen years. Anticipation has been enormous for the concert which is a part of the band’s world tour but the band has already played 15 shows in the USA. Einar Örn Benediktsson and his band Ghostigital will warm up for the Pixies. The Sugar Cubes warmed up for the band in the bands’ tour and Einar has been in good contact with the members of the band since then [Einar was a member of the Sugar Cubes], which helped the concert promoters to get the band to play in Kaplakriki. Einar Örn speaks nicely of the Pixies, says that the members are all nice people but adds, with a grin, that they are still not the best of friends and that things are bad between them today. But Einar Örn strictly denies that Ghostigital will play new material for tonight’s or tomorrow night’s audience. “This is all old material. Old and classic.” Þorsteinn [Thorsteinn] Stephensen, at Mr. Destiny, which got the Pixies to Iceland, says that the band is in good gear these days and it is a whole other sight to see the band than when they retired years ago. Frank Black and company have been touring a lot, they have gone to the Blue Lagoon and driven the Golden Circle, eaten fish in every meal and had a nice time. The bassist Kim Deal was seen in the Kolaport on Saturday with her sister Kelley and they apparently had much fun there. “This is a very quiet bunch. They practiced yesterday and are at full pace today preparing the concert. Usually these kind of comebacks are pretty weak but the band has been receiving great reviews on their concerts in the USA and are playing 26-28 songs each concert.” When asked upon whether the band will have something new for tonight’s show Thorsteinn answers that this will just be a terrific rock concert, “they are not trying to invent the wheel, they don’t bring gigantic plasma screens or anything like that. Just a guitar, a bass and a drum set.” It is sold out for the concert tomorrow but there are still some tickets available for tonight’s show. You can get tickets at Skífan in Laugavegur, Kringlan or Smáralind but also at the entrance at Kaplakriki if there will be any left."
Sorry if my English is bad.

Oh yeah, with the article is a recent picture of the band, they are standing in front of a fence. Kim is wearing a Ted Nugent t-shirt and FB is cool as always with sunglasses. I don't own a scanner but I imagine this picture exists somewhere on the web?

And this article was published in the newspaper Fréttablaðið:
"LIVING LEGENDS
One half of the band Pixies has been in this country since Friday but they have not wanted to speak to the press. The members of the band have all said that they wanted to come here for a longer time and they have spent all their time here in the country looking around. The bassist Kim Deal and the guitar player Joey Santiago came here Friday with their families. With Kim is her sister, Kelley Deal, which plays with her in the band The Breeders. Joey is here with his wife and his kid. The singer Frank Black, or Black Francis.... yes or Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV, came with the drummer David Lovering on Sunday. The group then went to the Blue Lagoon and everybody loved the place. Saturday night the members of the band which had arrived here ate at the “Austur Indía-félag” [Eastern-India-society?]. On that same night the guitar player went with Icelandic acquaintances to the club Sirkus. There he got harrased by fans but he didn’t seem to care, since he was there until the next morning, slammin’ tequila and drinking beer. Yesterday, in the good weather, the group went to see Gullfoss and Geysir. Everybody was speechless about the country’s nature’s beauty. The group is here with a crew of filmmakers, which are making a documentary about the band’s tour. The group has just arrived from Brazil, whence they got divine receivings [bad translation]. It is obvious that the return of the Pixies is a remarkable event in the music history, especially because Kim Deal and Frank Black hadn’t spoken to each other for ten years. The band’s entourage says that the members of the band have both feet on the ground and are not much for the glamour. It is not expected that the Pixies will do the same setlist on both concerts but until now the setlist has varied, which is not weird because the material is plenty. It is not known whether the band will try some new songs, as rumoured. Yesterday there still were tickets available for tonight’s show, but presumably it will be sold out today."

The English is all garbled on that translation. The article title says Pixies aren't getting along, but the text leads one to believe this Ghost-something band is the one that's got problems, don't it? |
