the contents:

"Hmm, some Italian Orange Soda from Wild Oats grocery...organic milk and oj, bread, celery, carrots, nuts, avocado, red and green peppers, oranges, hummus, tortillas, feta, gouda, cheddar, parmesan, romaine, homemade turnip pickles, vlasic pickles, sweet pickle relish, hellman's 2 gram fat mayo, miracle whip (ewww -husband's choice, not mine) lots of salad dressings and about 8 different kinds of mustard or more, sauerkraut, hershey's syrup, fat free whipped cream cans (chocolate and reg flavor), Britta water pitcher, some baking soda, mixed salad greens, natural peanut butter, pure cap (awesome kick your ass hot sauce!)/lots of other hot sauces with funny names, orange marmalade, and lots of other jams/preserves...jesus -way too much!!! I can't list it all -don't ask about the freezer."

*just added* strawberries, apples (green and red), ginger, horseradish, Orangina, Guinness, Red Stripe beer, Old Style 40 oz. (from the time we decided to drink 40s barefoot on the porch -need more of that, I dare say), bread (whole grain variety), raspberry and rhubarb pie, spelt grain bun, ham, swiss cheese, sour cream, french onion dip, ginger preserves, loganberry preserves, butter, organic brown eggs, tomatoes are on the counter, garlic, no onions (bad food allergy), jalepenos. and: Red Snapper, chicken breast, salmon, hamburger, elk tenderloin

the challenge:

try to come up with a meal for two. with the contents being 90% comdiments, and no meat , it'll be challenging, but then there is more room for creativity..

me first:

i'll start with the mixed salad greens. slice up some red and green peppers and throw them in with some feta cheese and sliced avocado. then, depending on what kind of dressings she has, throw one of those on top too (and maybe sprinkle with some nuts).

for the main course, a grilled cheese sandwich.. i think i'll experiment with it and try some different cheeses. mainly the cheddar and gouda, but then sprinkle it with some feta right before i close the bread slices.

some hummus would go great with that too. maybe use some pickles or sliced up tortillas to scoop it up.

wash it down with some filtered water and this'll be the healthiest lunch i've had in a while.

next up..

Mmm, I would roast one of those red peppers, slice it, and roll it up in a tortilla w/some hummus and feta. Got any kalamata olives, apl? I'd add those too. Make a nice salad and drink some of that orange soda. Yum!

I think I'd cut into lengths and stirfry the carrots, celery and peppers, and add a dash of the hot sauce for a bit of liveliness, then arrange in stacks. I may even add some peanut butter for that Satay texture. It would be curlish not to have some salad with those ingredients, so I'd go for a standard green salad, with a selection of various of the other veg, plus the orange cut into a twist on top. I think I'd also go for some cubed feta on top, and served with a selection of mayo and dressings.
Maybe I'd make some croutons with the bread, and possibly grate some parmesan over that, then wash it all down with some organic OJ.

For dessert, I'd probably eat some jam with a spoon and squirty cream.

OK. I'm over it.

You should know, there is a lot more in my fridge now. And all the meat is in the freezer. Well, there is some ham in the meat drawer now...

You want a full run-down?? hahhaahahahha

I could be set for recipes for the whole week! And when we are done, there's a bottle of champagne we never got around to on my birthday, so let's have a par-TAY!!!

Ooh, if you've got ham, it's a great and almost vital addition to the standard grilled cheese Floop was proposing earlier. Of course, with some of those other cheeses (i.e. non cheddar) it might not be quite so good. If you have onions and tomatoes, they are also very tasty with the grilled cheese in lieu of ham.

Very cool idea, Floop, btw...

OK. We have added (or I forgot) the following:

strawberries, apples (green and red), ginger, horseradish, Orangina, Guinness, Red Stripe beer, Old Style 40 oz. (from the time we decided to drink 40s barefoot on the porch -need more of that, I dare say), bread (whole grain variety), raspberry and rhubarb pie, spelt grain bun, ham, swiss cheese, sour cream, french onion dip, ginger preserves, loganberry preserves, butter, organic brown eggs, tomatoes are on the counter, garlic, no onions (bad food allergy), jalepenos (on the counter).

ah, mere -we DO have some olives -marinaded in garlic and such. Would that work?

Freezer? Too much, but here are some meats etc to work with from there:

Red Snapper, chicken breast, salmon, hamburger, elk tenderloin.

Salad

Subbacultcha Salad

take the assoted greens and romaine and fine chop, add fine chopped tomatoes and top with avocado slices, feta, and nuts and I'd make little flowers from the turnips and lay one on the side to make it look pretty...

Soup

Chicken noodle a la 40 oz:

I'd boil all the chicken and make a nice chicken stock, then I would sautee some minced garlic, celery and carrots, deglaze with some of the 40oz, add the chicken stock and a bit of chicken peices celery and carrots, salt and pepper, I know you some noodles some where so we throw those in, take a couple of our tomatoes and stew them off in the chicken stock so they have a nice flavor, and we've got a nice light chicken noodle as our soup, throw some fresh chives or something green on top to make it look nice right before service

Appetizer

Brick is Red Snapper rolls Italian Sashimi

Ok, I's broil the snapper with some herbed butter, whatever herbs you have, some garlic and italian herbs... take that an cut the tortillas into little strips as well as the snapper and make littl rolls with snapper, throw some rice in there as well, and garnish with a salsa made from japs, strawberris, oranges, hot sauce, tomatoes,

entree

6oz Grilled Elk Tenderloin with the into the White horseradish cream sauce [Then I'd make a cream sauce to lay over top of it

Sautee garlic (I wish you had some fucking shallots) japs, celery, deglaze with Orange soda and vodka, then we add the sour cream and horse radish and minced ginger and dill and have a nice spicey cream sauce for ( i wish I has some shrooms too)

,served with
steamed julliane peppers, and roasted red potatoes [chopped red potatoes baked in olive oil with fresh herbs (I know they're in the pantry)]

desert:

Warm white belly Rubarb crisp with caramelized fruit

I'd caramalize the strawberries and apples in brown sugar and butter and take the rubarb pie and throw it into a bowl, mush it all up so I can make a crisp. Take the pie mush, put in small baking dish, top with nuts and sugar, bake until brown and top with the cramalized fruit as seen above, and topped with fake whipped cream, and I probably could whip up some creme anglaise too...

Okay, I tried anyway, I reserve the right to adjust any of my menu items beofre the contest is over...

hahahaha! floop you crack me up. I love this game btw! It's not easy coming up with menus. I find myself making the same few things a lot.

I would love to have all of you over for a party, as a matter of fact. I was thinking about it just the other day. The travel logistics for most would be a bitch though.

Do I get to have a crack at it, or does the "fridge-ee" not go during their round?

edit: Just wanted to add, LBF, you must be an awesome cook -that meal sounds incredible! You're welcome to come over and help out anytime, and we can listen to the crazed Mockingbird(s) from the deck while we eat. The 40 oz chicken noodle is HI-larious!

Oh, and we have shallots, but they aren't in the fridge -should they be? Where do you all keep your garlic and shallots???

holy shit! LBF, you've set the bar pretty high. didn't you once mention that you worked at a 5-star restaurant or something? this is making me huuuungry.

bear in mind though, judges, the recipes should not be judged only for how good they sound, but if it sounds like something you'd want to make. ie. do you prefer more easy-to-make style? or are you willing to spend a lot of time in the kitchen..

apl, yes, you're welcome to join the contest too. and think, now you'll get a bunch of ideas of what to make this week.

ok, i know this isn't very fair, but i went to the fridge and actualy, there is WAY more than I remembered. Should we leave it at that, or do I divulge everything?

Man, we NEED to have you all over to eat all this stuff.

Allergic to onions?

All onions? That would include scallions and shallots aye?

I can't imagine life without onions.

With shallots and garlic, they don't need to be refrigerated until they are peeled. Then yes, refrigerate and shelf life for garlic is probably 2 weeks...

my entry

FLOOP'S BREAKFAST BURRITOS

ingredients:

organic brown eggs
chicken breast
garlic
red peppers
green peppers
avocado
tortillas
cheddar cheese
feta cheese
jalapenos
sour cream
milk
hot sauce
(i wish you had some lime and some onions)

bread
butter
orange marmalade (or loganberry preserves)

directions

- cut chicken breast into small, thinly sliced pieces.
- break 7 eggs into mixing bowl. remove two yolks. add 2 tablespoons milk and mix together.
- slice up 1 jalapeno pepper (or more if you're into that) into small pieces, then dice.
- chop up red and green peppers (both equating to approx 1/4 of 1 pepper) into small pieces.
- cut out 1/4 of the avocado, keeping the skin on (for now)
- grate 1/2 cup cheddar cheese.
- press 2 to 3 cloves of garlic, or smash with a cleaver. set aside.
- place tortillas on respective plates, ready..

- in frying pan, add 3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil (you must have that), bring to medium/hot heat.
- add chicken. cook approx. 5 minutes, stirring continually.
- add garlic, jalapenos and peppers. continue stirring 3 minutes
- add eggs, feta cheese, grated cheddar and continue stirring until eggs are fully cooked.

(at this time, begin toasting bread)

- place eggs in tortillas, off-center. do not overfill.
- slice avocado in thin slices, lengthwise, cutting towards skin. remove slices as you go and add to top of eggs.
- add sour cream and hot sauce.
- take the side of the tortilla that is most exposed and fold over eggs, covering half. then fold the sides in, leaving the top part exposed.

serve with buttered toast, marmalade and organic orange juice (hopefully she has some coffee too).

I still have most of these things in my fridge! Any other suggestions? When is the game deadline, floop? I have to plan the party here!

the deadline is Friday morning, 10:00am. Eastern Standard Time (because i'm taking another trip after that)..

you must use the ingredients already presented. recipe submitters can not vote for their own recipe, but outside food afficionados are welcome to vote (no double voting allowed - ie. using alternate usernames).
