Spin off time. I'm growing a beard. I haven't shaved for three weeks now, and its quite bushy and rugged looking. I like having something to stroke also. However, I'd be interested in your opinions: should I go for the full-on facial growth, the little funny looking 'style' beard, or somewhere in between? Do women actually find beards attractive? And do you have any grooming tips? That last one was directed towards men mainly. For reference, visit this site, full of excellent beards:http://members.aol.com/beardguy/brdview.htm

Hey cheesy, you should change the title of this thread to "Favorite Beard"
I prefer sideburns to full-blown beards, but I have a shaved head so they don't look that great. In my experience some girls do like the "look" of beards but rarely the "feel".

This is intended as a friendly discussion forum on the subject of beards in general, so it stays as just 'Beards'. I like the feel and the look so far, I'm not doing it for women. Its my face!

OK, I must reveal the horrible truth : I don't have any beard. It just didn't grow. I thought it would, my father has a beard, and I'm the only man from my family with no beard.
I do have a moustache, though a poor one, and some beard on my chin. If I don't shave, I look messy, but I'm unable to grow a beard.
It's really frustrating, I would really like to grow a beard. It looks sooooo cool.
I keep feeling like people are just looking at screens and web sites all the time, but do they ever do anything? Or go out and say anything to anyone? I'm not so sure anymore. |

Floop and his big book of images strike again. Any chance of a picture of an....evil looking tortoise.
I wish I could grow a beard. Im nearly 13 and it sucks ass. It grows loads around my chin (but not high up enough for a goatee) and the sides are way to patchy. Bah. Plus Im a girl!

floop must be busy combing his beard into something sinister-shaped. I'll try to fill in for him, Malax:

Yeah, but he doesn't have my scruffy charm. I could always just go for a fine moustache, maybe the 'Billy Childish': . Apparently there's a moustache club you can join, where the entry requirement is 'graspable extremities'. Cue humourous plays on words.

Don't invest too much importance in what girls think! It's your face, and there's women out there who have both preferences. Now, if you have a gilfriend or a wife, then it might be more of a consideration.
I've been sporting a chin-strap style beard for a while now...almost a year. I've come to the decision that I look like a moron with a clean-shaven face. It just doesn't suit me. For that reason, I will always have sideburns. Usually a chin-goatee, at the least. But some kind of beard is a sure thing nowadays (it wasn't until I was 20 or 21 that i could actually GROW a halfway decent beard!)

Oh yeah, grooming tips. Avoid scissors...buy a beard/mustache trimmer, and become accustomed to using it. Every dude has different facial-hair growth patterns, so you want to be sparing with the trimmer (you can always trim more) to avoid overdoing it and to avoid doing a patchy-loooking job. Just like anything, you'll get better with practice

I've got myself a little goatee, definately wouldn't go for the whole beard, maybe a one that joins up to a moustache, but some people can't really pull that off,i.e. me

I have a sort of beard going...a small one along the jawline. It meets up with a semi-vandyke. The hair that connects me moustache to my goatee is pretty pathetic. I've always wanted a proper vandyke. Having facial hair makes me feel a little more secure.

maybe we should have a forum beard contest. we'll all shave on the same day.. and then 3 years from now, we'll submit pictures and everyone can vote.
it'll be a good warmup for me. since i'm planning on entering more serious competition way down the road. beating all of you amateurs will boost my confidence, and fire me up for the big leagues.. |

Damn it floop, I haven't spent three weeks fastidiously growing facial hair just to shave it off again. Sorry, I'll just have to take the unfair advantage.
I always said I didn't want the little pointy bit of fluff-style beard, and I think thats still true, I'd rather have a proper beard. My brother suggested maybe shave the moustache and leave the beard, but maybe that'd look a little Amish? I think the full deal is the way to go. Plus, its a lot more manly than Jim's.

I think that's something we'll all enjoy seeing Malax. Posts nowadays don't have enough pictures in. It's all words, opinions, political stances....
Incidentally, I began shaving again recently. I used to leave it for a good month or so and then tackle the growth with horrid, painful consequences. Therefore action in the form of mildly regular shaving has come into force.
Hey Floop, how's your beard?
