Just been reading this thread in the pixies forum and wondered if anyone had any good fb ones. I imagine this has been done to death, if so I apologise
I mishear most lyrics (cloth ears) but one that springs to mind is
rain that lasts till dawn for reign of mastodon
oh well heh
My cats breath smells of catfood |

I have mentioned it before that I always heard "gravitate to Central France" as "grab a taste of Central France" - in Massif Central(e).

"at the toe in black"
don't you think toe in black sounds like a cool pub or something?
then when i found out it was "head to toe in black" i kept thinking it meant, lets to go toe in black. i have NO IDEA why i thought toe in black was a pub.

This is probably a common one:
In "Ten Percenter" I thought:
"Suck a syrup and soda"
was
"Suckin' slurpin' soda"

My wife thought "slicin up eyeballs" was "songs from the Bible". When I told her what it really was she said "Oh, why would he say something like that?" So I had to explain the song to her.
Oops. I just realized this was supposed to be only Frank Black stuff. Sorry. |

I always thought in men in black that
"Dinner plate specials, the shape of cucumbers.."
was actually
"Dinner plate specials, the chef served cucumbers..."
And you know - I actually prefer the misheard version

The MIB lyric sounded like "the chef's a cucumber" to me. Not that that makes any sense.
As for "Blast Off," doesn't Frank actually say "I'm wearing Beckett's pants" at one point? Not Becky's, certainly, but I think psychogroupie got the pants part right.

There's the old "Sellin' insurance" for "Sailing and shoring", and I also heard "Like Jesus Christ gone to Hell" for "Like Jesus Christ on the hill" (I'll Be Blue)... and I think that's better!

that MIB lyric is just begging to be misheard!
I always thought it was something like "To a place (that's) special, the shape of a cucumber"
Frank has a weird way of enunciating words sometimes when he's singing...I think its pretty cool, everyone does it to a certain degree. But it has definitely caused me some confusion in terms of mis-hearing lyrics

MIB - "Are they grey or is it my own nation?" - Which I always thought was "Are they grey or is it my omission?"
And in "Jesus was right", I alway thought the line "I like distortion, when I bar chord, An empty parking lot, when I ride on my board" was "I like distortion, when I bar chord, An empty parking lot, when I ride on my whore"
I think the Becketts pants line is a beckett trance isn't it?

"You have no heart until that bacon fills your chest" - Goodbye Lorraine "Mashed Potato Blues!" - Jaina Blues
My friend though that I Will Run After You went "I will rock you some afternoon"
We had played Gouge Away several times when we discovered our drummer thought the words were "Graduate... You can't Graduate" |

I had quite a few with the Pixies: I shouldn't admit to this, but I *very briefly* thought Debaser went "I am unchained, on the loose, yeah" (and I wasn't sure if he said 'debaser', a word I didn't really know at the time, or "ten paces"... I had a copy of the album, so no tracklist). "Sliced with no bubbles"... and I thought Tame went "PAAAAIN!!!"
Then there's "This monk, he's gone to Harvard"...

I think Frank likes mashed potatoes - I remember someone else posted a long time ago that their kids were running around singing Hermaphroditos as: "Mashed potato is my name"
