This is Richard Florida's (Regional Economic Development Expert). Basically, his theory which is quite controversial and popular suggests that High-Tech companies (the staple of the new economy) are attracted to places with a large proportion of those in creative fields. His website ranks cities based on their ability to attract High-Tech Talent.
He uses the Boho Index (proportion of those in creative fields), the Melting Pot Index (proportion of those who are foreign born/ a measure of diversity), the Gay Index (proportion of homosexuals/ measure of a city's tolerance)and other Indexes to measure how well cities across North America rank.
It is quite popular and yet quite demented:

It's understandable since in France, everyone is creative, foreign-born and gay.

wow. the census takers en france are detailed!
trippy.
curious that what i would think of as a left brain dominated field gathers around the right brain dominated arty farties.
this does not count the gay demographic. i have known some very left brain dominant gay folks.
also, my tv told me that adnan is the authority on gayness, so your dad is certainly gay!
he probably has good drugs.
ok, that's a stereotype, but if i did that sort of thing, i would say the gay community has good taste in all sorts of stuff...
