Baraka. Anyone ever see this? It tells it's story through visuals and music. Pretty amazing stuff. Beautiful and at times very disturbing.

That films been mentioned alot on this forum, I still have to see it, sounds really good. Did Philip Glass do the score to it? Last two movies I watched were Battle Royal and Chopper last week, very gory, but highly entertaining.

I recently saw Chopper for the first time. I didn't care for it, though.

I did'nt like it really the first time I saw it either, it's pretty disturbing. But seeing it again made me realize what a sad sociopath he was, he was pretty manipulative, and was pretty pathetic, in that violence was only way that he could get people like to like him and express himself. I've never seen the real life guy, I could be pretty off, but that my two cents.

"Fog of War" http://www.errolmorris.com/ Errol Morris interview/documentary with former Secretary of Defense, then President of the World Bank. IMHO, everyone should see this movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_McNamara
Purchased and watched last night: "Maybe Logic: the Lives and Ideas of Robert Anton Wilson" http://www.maybelogic.com/ Can't get much cooler than that, maybe.
Saw "Lost in La Mancha" 2 months or so ago. http://www.lostinlamancha.com/ That was an amazing movie. floop would probably love it. All about Terry Gilliam trying to make a movie of "Don Quixote" over the course of 10 years, and failing spectacularly. The same dark and weird path Orson Welles travelled.
Can't remember anything but documentaries right now. But they're damn good!

I recently saw Lost in La Mancha. I was hoping for more, I think.
Other cool documentaries I have recently seen are, "American movie" and "Stevie". If you've never seen these, you should.

Spellbound was good stuff. For funny, American movie was better though.

Lost in La Mancha was so bittersweet. You get a fairly clear vision of how The Man Who Killed Don Quixote would have turned out, and it looked excellent. I actually got excited about that movie as I watched this 'non-making of', and then became severly bummed when I realized I'd never get to see it because it never actually got made.

No. It just opened on friday in New York and LA, having shown at the tribeca film festival the week before. I caught it at landmark sunshine on houston in ny saturday.
It should be hitting the art house circuit in a couple weeks. I know its playing at the cinema arts centre on Long island early next month. hopefully, it'll play somewhere near you.

i saw it in the theatre when it came out. it was great, but painful to watch.
the one thing i walked away from that film feeling, more than anything else, is that Terry Gilliam is just a fucking amazingly cool guy. no matter how shitty and impossible things got, he didn't dwell and let his frustration get the better of him. just kept pressing on (until he literally could not any longer).. super creative guy and loyal to his crew.
i hope he gets to make it eventually. |

My friends said the same thing a Lost in La Mancha, how it depressed them not being able to see the finished film. Has anyone seen Zatôichi. I missed it in the cinema, my friends said that it was great. I really love Beat Takeshi (Fireworks is one of my favorite films). I heard him in an interveiw recently saying how people went to see Kill Bill as a joke in Japan and how Zatôichi is the real deal, personally I enjoyed Kill Bill Vol.1 & 2 .

I was just being stupid with that last post. I don't hate foreign films and by that I mean Japanese or arty farty films from belgium and such. But people always go on about them and as much as I'd like to watch them I never can be bothered. Non English speaking films that I've seen.
Run lola run , battle royale, dead or alive
I enjoyed all of them. Also I deteste english films. Theres nothing fun about seeing the street were I live (or one that looks like it) at all. So basically I watch american films, my dvd collection currently consists of:
Pulp Fiction SE Evil Dead 2 (?) Robocop Goodfellas (?) Naked Gun 1 and 2 La Confidential Memento Narc Magnolia The Pledge Die Hard 3 O Brother Where Art Thou
I like to buy films which I really enjoy the ones with ?'s next to them were bought out of interest rather than me loving them.
WINDED LONG

Im in a typing mood

as columbine spins it's wheels through the eyes of murdered childern you have to ask yourself what purpose firearms actually have other than killing. a great and sometimes all too real societal piece. sad, sobering and meloncholy. |

The Tomb Raider movie was also so stupid that it was hilarious. Has anyone else saw Sympathy for the Devil? It's a set of political shorts set to the Stones song with clips of them in the studio recording the cut. It's by Jean Luc Godard. It was a pretty fun watch and it only cost me a few dollars.

saw troy last night. first reaction? 2 1/2 out of 4. but now, the more i consider the sucker, the less i like it. way over the top sometimes. brian cox as aggamemnon was horrible. bad dialouge, some bad acting, they fucked with the story, but worst of all was the music. the music was absolutely wretched. right now i'm feeling gladiator was better, and i though gladiator wasn't too hot. there was some very good stuff, though. Achilles v. Hector was a hoot. Fireball attack was incredible. Never seen anything like that before. but i'm kind of getting sick those huge epic shots of thousands of soldiers on a battlefield, a la LOTR. its the new bullet time.

I felt the same. To many long stares into the distance. Brian Cox was alright but Peter o Toole, what a joke. Sean Beans introduction is great they all have similarish accents then Sean Bean walks in "by eck!", well not really. It made me want people not to die and stuff it brought out an emotion in me which can never be bad. I was sweating it when hector is fighting achilles. Entertaining. You can ask for nothing more, Does what it says on the tin.

I know I am gonna love it, and that's all that matters to me.
I agree with you Malax, English films suck!!!
I have recently aquired ten free cinema tickets that I have to use up by the end of this month. The Odean they are valid in doesn't show much so my choice has been limited. So far I have seen, Taking Lives (OK), Secret Window (OK-ish, at best), Shaun Of The Dead (OK), Kill Bill 2 (good), Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (FANTASTIC!!!). I also recently saw Scarface for the first time and was impressed. Not as good as Goodfellas or Godfather IMO but has Pacino's best performance (that I have seen).
