I'm going to see the "reformed" Don Caballero play tomorrow night at some dive in Eugene. I'm barely familiar with them, but have to go because I'm a big fan of math-rock. Any fans on here? Thoughts on the so-called reunion? |

Heh heh...
No fans, hmm? Well, Don Caballero put on a GREAT show- probably the best I've been to this year (including the Pixies). I got in for free because I made it to the club a half hour early; unfortunately, this meant I had to sit through three opening bands and their attendent, neverending soundchecks. Anyway, Don Cab impressed me so much that I briefly considered paying the $7 admission (I'm buying an album instead). Fans of Melvins and/or other "smart metal" will surely love these guys... if they can get past the absence of vocals. Here's some linkies.

I'm a fan, Mr. Knight. Would have liked to have seen them live, but looks like Cleveland was the closest, and they've come and gone already. It's damn hard to keep up with the bands I actually like.

I thought Don Caballero was just a guy, so it's a band, right. My friend loves them, he's played them for me a couple of times and it sounded pretty good. I always forgot the name, do they have something to do with Papa M or is that just my imagination? and do they sound abit like Tortoise?

Don Caballero is a quartet. I don't know if there is a Papa M connection, but David Pajo (the guy behind Papa M) used to play in Slint, whose releases are on Touch and Go Records (Don Cab's label) and may have influenced Don Cab. Haven't heard Tortoise, but they're on Touch and Go as well.
I'm sorry you missed them, Apl. I only found out about the tour a few days before the show myself. |
