Today's random song of the day is Is She Weird.

What do you think of it?

lyrics
I know you're rich in
Good clothes and little things
Your mind is fancy
(And your car is bitchin')

Is she weird
Is she weird, is she white
Is she promised to the night
And her head has no room
And her head has no room

Your heart is ripshit
Your mouth is everywhere
I'm lyin' in it

Is she weird
Is she over me
Like the stars and the sun
Like the stars and the sun
Is she weird
Is she weird, is she white
Is she promised to the night
And her head has no room!

No more of this girl cryin'
I'm here, your big man
You're mine

Is she weird, is she white
Is she promised to the night
And her head has no room

Black Francis
(p) 1990 4-A-D

BBC version. For a Surfer Rosa guy like me Bossanova vocals are a bit too calm. But, Bossanova music is amazing...

B.B.C. version is the best! Really dark, brooding feel. I love when Frank goes "Awww FUCK!", after he slightly messes up a part. I love Kim's bass and backing vocal, and the "and your car is bitchin'" line.

it's not frank who says that - but a technician.
hey's got a hell of a english accent to be frank.

but i also think the bbc version kicks the ass of the bossanova version....
but regardless, it's still one of the highlights off the album.

I agree with the previous posts that the BBC version is much superior to the Bossanova version.

Sorry about that everyone. I listened to this the other day. It's KIM saying "Awww FUCK!". Kim is in the left channel on this song. In fact, that's virtually the only time you can hear her in the song!

are you sure it's kim.
i have listened to it hundreds of times, and i just don't think it can be her.
it's especially obvious on the rough diamonds version, but it sounds to me like a guys voice with a thick English accent.

OI! Vote tampering!

With that sort of cavalier attitude towards democratic choice, you could work for the Bush administration.

The intensity of "Like the stars and the sun" is cool.

Bossanova's version has weird percussion noises hidden in the background. One of the instruments sounds like a :

Plus, there is no better song to follow than Ana.. almost a two-part song.

I always assumed the "Aw Fuck!" was from Kim. Why would a studio engineer be mic'd up? I was trying to spot if Kim had bummed a note or something, but if she did then I missed it.

Love the song though. Especially the crescendo at the end.

The 'BBC' version of Is She Wierd is from Portastudios, Los Angeles, 6/90. I believe that Black Francis came into the studio to record some demos for Bossanova. I'm quite sure that Black is the only person present on the recording. Reason for saying that is because I don't hear any of Kim's bass, Joey's lead guitars, and Dave is just a drum machine. Remember in the DVD Black says that all the members were living in different areas.

You can find two more of the songs from this session that i uploaded a year ago on the FTP. The songs are Velouria and Hang On To Your Ego.

It's Frank. Why would he not sing the line there in lieu of an engineer saying "Aww Fuck"? He's supposed to say "Her head has no room" so, if he were having no problems at that moment, he would have sung the line and you would have heard the engineer beneath the line. And since when would an engineer be heard on a vocalists vocal mic when an engineer is supposed to be in the control room controling things behind a sound proof wall. That's totally Frank's voice saying it and it doesn't even have an english accent either.

didn't catch this first time around! but love the song. i can see why people like the bbc version more... the bossanova version seems to be toned down, near the end you can really hear frank screaming, but the screaming vocals have been turned right down in the mix in place of the almost chanting like vocals... bit of a shame really, i'd love to have had those screaming vocals real loud in the mix... kind of builds up to it...

Is it like today? Oh, oh, oh-oh. Then there followed days with kings, empires and revolutions. blood just looks the same when you open the veins. sometimes it was faith, power or reason as the cornerstone. but the furrowed brow has never left his face. he said, how did it come to this?

yep, i think it's only frank as well. the bbc version is the best; dry guitar and straight to the point.

this has got to be one of my favorite songs. i love everything about it. i was very sad when they did not perform it in victoria. sigh.

BBC version the best my butt. Sure, he might scream more on it, but its robbed of the great climax (stars & the sun X2) and the churning momentum that follows it on Bossanova.

If this is true, that song isn't a Pixies song. Black Francis solo stuff.
