Why is it that this CD is not remastered in sound? The recording volume on Death is louder and more up to date standards. The new best of is just the original recording volumes plopped on one CD. You listen to any other best of CD from another band and the volume goes through the roof compared to this CD. Can't 4AD get this right....bunch of numbskulls!

shakeyshake, don't ever reply to a thread with "get over it". It sounds like you're a complete asshole...which you very well may be.

I agree that the Pixies catalog needs to be remastered. Not that they have to compress them too much, but like pjcoble said, you do have to turn down your stereo after you take out your Pixies discs... The only problem is that if you do remaster them, you are basically going to have to run the tracks through a limiter and/or compressor, and in the end you will lose some of the dynamics of the music. Sort of a tradeoff...

I told you to get over it 'cause you started a thread just to complain about something that really doesn't affect your listening pleasure, you just wanted to whine.

Louder does not equal better. Remastering is not always an improvement. The public has been duped into believing both of these falsehoods for marketing purposes.

For decades, radio stations have routinely compressed their commercials so that quietest part of the ad is as loud as the part with the most volume. This was to make them stand out from the programming.

Then the stations got involved and started compressing their own signal paths to make the songs as loud as the commercials, thus negating most of the advertisers' advantage.

As a result, most record labels now insist on their albums being mastered as "hot" as technology will allow, without lapsing into unlistenable digital distortion.

Everyone's playing follow the leader on this one, and in my opinion, it's contributing to most modern rock records sounding more and more like each other.

Enjoy The Pixies records for what they were/are. I'm assuming that's what the band is doing, since they've refused to allow the remastered versions to be pressed.

They don't sound like everything else, and maybe that's okay.
