denis's inane post about having 22 nephews inspired me to ask how big everyones extended familes are....
i personally have a rather large one, with over 60 first-cousins on each side...my father was one of 9 kids and my mum is one of 8. i am one of 5 kids, and thats about average for the clan.
so, about 130 for me.
and i hardly know any of them, which is a sad reality with having a family so large.

i don't have a large family. pretty standard. have 9 cousins i believe. and i'm the oldest. my gran had like 8 or 9 sisters though.
Is it like today? Oh, oh, oh-oh. Then there followed days with kings, empires and revolutions. blood just looks the same when you open the veins. sometimes it was faith, power or reason as the cornerstone. but the furrowed brow has never left his face. he said, how did it come to this?

My dad is the oldest of nine - so I have a lot of cousins on that side. I think there are 15 of us total. And then my mom is the oldest of four - and I've got 5 cousins from that side. I only talk to one of them regularly though. I myself am an only child.

I don't have a big family on my side actually (2 sisters, 10 cousins), but my wife is the 7th of 8 kids and they all have 3 or 4 children each. I always find it funny that the day we got married, I suddenly became the uncle of 22. Some of them are only 2 or 3 years younger than me and they call me "Tio Denis".

Bg familiies scare me. Im not into that whole family thing.
Im an only child. (yeah yeah, here comes the spoilt brat replies) My mumis the second of four - all boys, none of which have any children, so im the only grandchild as well (double spoilt).
I dont speak to the rest fo my family - theres a bit of a riff between everyone, and are frankly people I dont want to know. I have no idea how many cousins I may or may not have. Used to speak to my 2nd cousin, and her daughter, my thrid, but shes dead now, and i dont see the daughter.
Apparently i have a half brother and sister, on my dads side, never met them though, and probably ave a bunch more after my parents split up - but dont have contact with my dad, so wouldnt know.
My great gran is still alive, but very bitter - we dotn see her, used to when my great grandad was alive, but he died too, so yeah.
So basically, there me, and my mum, and I see her younger brother a lot (well, hes actually living with us at the moment), and very two years or so I see my older uncle.
Its not really like family though, just sorta friends. But thats the way Ilike it.
I love you for what I am not, I did not ask for what I have got.
You will get used to me. Welcome to your new joy. |

Family's very important in my, umm, family? Geez, that sounds stupid. I'm one of four boys. My mom insisted in having us in pairs, that whole 'irish twin' thing, inwhich we're born about a year apart. The idea was that we'd always have someone growing up. And it worked, cause we're all very close. My extended family isn't super big, but it isn't super small. Over twenty cousins on one side, even with my uncle being childless, and only five on the other. All but two relativies live within twenty miles of my house, most in the same town, so I see them constantly. Its a good thing, with lots of family parties and trips. When I go to the bar, I usually run into at least one cousin. Its just something that helps to make the place I live 'home', as hokey as that is.

There was a picture on my grandparents' wall (on the Greek side of the family) that we would sit around and have a contest to see if anyone could count how many people were in the family as kids when we were bored there.
Nobody ever finished.
My mom's side is pretty big, too. I wouldn't have it any other way.

big familes were very popular where i grew up. our neighbours had 13 kids, and many friends at school had atleast 6 brothers and sisters. not sure if it's related, but none of my school friends parents have gotten divorced. lets hope that continues.
in my dads family, my uncle had a niece that was older than him. does that still technically count as a niece?

I was at a party on Saturday with some gypsies and one of them, a guy in his thirties showed me a family photo from the 80's , one shot in a shop with a paleblue backdrop and everyone with their hair combed immaculately and wearing pastel suits, the only thing was the guy showing me in that photo wasn't wearing any pants. But apart from that one detail it was like a perfectly normal family shot.

My entire family consists of:
1 mum 1 dad 1 daughter 1 grand-mum 1 half-brother 1 step-mom 1 step-dad 1 step-sister 2 aunts 2 uncles (maybe only one, my cousin's dad divorced my mum's sister) 1 cousin (huge pixies fan, btw) 1 brother-in-law 2 nephews (twins) 1 niece
Why is 'monosyllabic' such a long word? |

I have a very small family. My mom had no siblings, my father only a sister. She got married, and they had one child. That child got married, and she had 4 kids. That's about it. There's some 2nd cousins and such, but not much direct family. |

Speedy, for some reason, your reply sounds like a word problem. "If speedy's father has only a sister and that sister had four grandchildren, then which train will reach Burbank first?" Oh vell. Probably just the cold meds. Woo-hoo!
I have three siblings and we get along ok, but they made my childhood a living hell. I have an only child.

My sister-in-law's husband comes from a family of 14 kids. They were going to try to match that, but after having 4 kids in 5 years, they kind of ran out of steam.

I had a closed adoption so I have um... zero
but this girl I work with has 10 kids by the same mother and father, they're mormons
she had babies every 2 years for 20 years , from 20 to 40
I actually kinda' like tthis girl, but I doubt anything long term becomes fo it, like my adiction for television
