anyone see any reviews of the vancouver shows in the local papers? when i was there i didn't see anything. it looks like there was a review in "The Province" but you need to be a subscriber to access it online. it would be great if someone could post it or provide a brief summary. the friday show was amazing so i would expect that it received a fairly positive review.

When I was in Vancouver, I picked up a Friday paper to see if there was anything about Thurs., but there wasn't anything. I was also watching an arts show on Vancouver public TV at the hotel while we were there. The TV show covered various acts that would be at the Commodore that week, but they didn't mention the Pixies. ????????

Hey, there was an article in the Vancouver Sun.

PIXIES FEVER INFLATES $35 TICKET TO $275

The Pixies tour has hit the Canadian road, and excitement surruonding the unlikeliest reunions means that fans are shelling out more than eight times the ticket price to see the late 80's icons.
The original Pixies lineup- Frank Black, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering- is touring mid-size venues in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg before heading throughout the U.S and Europe on a full on reuinion tour.Old fans and new fans who might not have seen a Pixies show before have been paying upwards of $275 on online auction site eBay for tickets that originally went on sale for $35.
Shows at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom for Thursday and Friday sold out in seven minutes. With the exception of Regina ( where the band is booked in a larger venue), shows in all other Canadian cities sold out in less than 10 minutes.
The Pixies had a nasty split in 1992, and fans long thought a reunion was impossible. Untill recently, the Pixies themselves no doubt thought so, too.
In their day, the band released classic albums Surfer Rosa and Doolittle, and recieved critical acclaim from the alternative music press during their tenture, but it was the grunge movement and bands like Nirvana the elevated the Pixies to alt-god status.
Kurt Cobain and recently former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl both commented on the Pixies' influence on songs like Smells Like Teen Spirit. The Pixies, Grohl said in a New York Times column, were the first band to effectively utalize the soft-loud dynamic that was trademark for lots of grunge bands in the early'90s, and continues today.

Thanks for posting the articles. I love the straight.com review. It captures the energy that was there, though I don't agree that everyone was there to hear the first two albums. But who could complain after a show like that?
