Love it. Beautiful melody of "evolving from the sea" to the raw electric sound of "i smell smoke and it comes from a gun".
Favourite part is the last verse where it all comes crashing into the "I read so-met-hi-ng-- about a ----son -- of a -- gun named EXTINCTION". Really enjoy the hyperactivity and the speed of lyrics.
2 cents spent.

Yeah, like it muchly also. Some metal-tastic riffage, which is always nice. I love the way the really evil, slow, flat-5 progression at the beginning sort of crashes into the punky uptempo verse. This is the kind of song people were referring to when they said Trompe was a return to 'old' style Pixies, I think.
Ace tune.

My second favorite Trompe song.
The slow part at the end ("evolving from the sea...") should sound awkwardly pasted on and like a recycling of the way "The Happening" ends, but it doesn't. It's great.
However what makes the song for me are the "struck by a bullet/and melted into fluid" and "feel the road of tar/beneath the wheel" parts. The internal rhymes there sound really cool. |

Excellent arrangement on this one. The way the "named extinction" bit kicks in and the "evolving from the sea" parts have already been mentioned, but I think how well they work bears repeating. This is one of the Frank/Pixies songs that deals with grand themes: extinction, evolution, etc.

The song that made me realize David Lovering is one of the most awesome drummers out there. It has all the classic elements of a Pixies song. It's heavy and sludgy sounding, and faster-than fuck at the same time!!! The "evolving from the sea" part is beautiful, and the outro is awesome, as well. Frank rips on this one!!! "EEEEEXTINCTIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!" Also love the pictures he paints with the lyrics.

I used to hate this song when I 1st started listening to Trompe. I felt that it really interupted the link between tracks 1 through 3 and 5 through 8.
But it quickly grew on me to be one of my favorite song's ever. I love singing that one while I'm driving. These days when I listen to Trompe, I start out with Sad Punk, and catch tracks 1-3 after the CD starts over.

Did anyone read the "Robert Smith" explanation of the lyrics? I don't believe it, but it's pretty interesting (it's somewhere on Alec Eiffel).
By the way, I think this song is the (missing) link between The Happening and Parry the wind, which shows that there is a true logic between the Pixies and Frank Black's later stuff.

say what you want, but imo this is the ULTIMATE pixies song. it has everything: melody/punk/incredible lyrics/screaming/singing/absolute genious structure/superb intro/...and it all fits so perfectly together.
especially i like the lyrics - they are so awesome poetic, and then packed in this hell of a metal or whatever song.
