Thom Yorke Cancels Gigs Due To Illness
Radiohead have been forced to cancel the final show of their Australian tour, as singer Thom Yorke has lost his voice due to a severe inflammation of his vocal chords, throwing the band’s headlining show at the Coachella Festival into doubt.
Radiohead barely completed the first of two nights at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia on Monday (April 26), with Yorke’s voice noticeably cracking during the performance.
The band only played one encore with the frontman finishing the set by saying, "Sorry about the throat, we almost nearly cancelled tonight. Please forgive or kiss my throat frog".
As a result the second show at the venue tonight (April 27) has been cancelled. A statement released by tour promoter Michael Chugg and Radiohead manager Bryce Edge reads,
"Lead singer Thom Yorke was examined by an ear, nose and throat specialist in Melbourne after developing significant loss of vocal quality and volume at the first Radiohead concert in Melbourne Monday night. Thom was barely able to finish the concert".
"Today he has a marked hoarseness of voice and a significant upper airway infection and heavy inflammation of his vocal chords. If he was to sing in the next few days he would cause irreparable damage to his vocal ability in the future. Consequently and regrettably we have to cancel tonight's show. Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase".
Radiohead’s next live date is set to be a headlining slot at the Coachella Festival in the US on May 1 alongside The Cure, Kraftwerk, Pixies, The Flaming Lips amongst others. It is not know whether Yorke’s illness will affect their appearance.
Looks like the Pixies will have to go it alone.

They could cure him - some of that Cipro antibiotic stuff, lotsa bed rest, lotsa liquids.
He could be ready to go by May 1 if he really got into recovery.
That'd suck if they cancelled. Radiohead and Pixies was going to be some historic stuff. |

Dang....First Wilco, and now possibly Radiohead..... It's like someone has been using my "reasons to go to coachella" list as a hitlist. Let's pray that they miss The Pixies, Flaming Lips, and The Cure. |

That's horrible news. I hope he makes a quick recovery. It wouldn't be the same without them. |

Wow, watch the value of those Coachella tickets on ebay plummet now. I feel sorry for the people who shelled out several hundred bucks... |

I think they cancelled the Australia show so that the Coachella show would not have to be cancelled. Radiohead are such huge Pixies fans I don't think they would miss the opportunity to share the stage...
